Cynthia Hernandez, RU 3 pt specialist in her day (2014-2016), has been hired to coach basketball at her old high school, Buena HS in Ventura CA. She was assist-coaching at the local community college, Ventura College.

Not sure if the link will get stuck behind a pay firewall. They mention her association with Rutgers and HoF coach Stringer.

Buena has been the source of several Div 1 women's basketball players, including Courtney LaVere, who played for Notre Dame during the Big East era and appeared at the RAC a few times. It is one of the "winningest" programs in California so Hernandez has some big shoes to fill.

Great for Cynthia and she might just be starting the beginning of a great coaching career being a HS HC at the age of 25.
Wishing her the best and hope this year is a successful one for her and the program she coaches.

High school is an excellent starting position for a coach. Of course, they can stay and make a name for themselves. Or it can be a jumping off point to (most likely) a good assistant position in college or, in some cases, a head coach at a lower level school. Long time high school coaches who have made a name for themselves in college include Sherri Coale and Brian Gorges at Marist, although they were high school coaches for many many years.

With her 3 years as an assistant at Ventura College (the JUCO she went to before going to RU) Cynthia has a little coaching experience behind her and returning to the HS she played for will put her a familiar environment which should help her adjust to being a HC easier than if she went somewhere that she never had a connection to.
Luckily Hernandez was able to start her coaching career as an assistant at the JUCO she played for and now has the good fortune of becoming the Head Coach for the High School she played for.
