We’ve gotta thump Ohio State

Liking the all-access format on FS1 … see both coaches and the game at the same time

Three straight losses for Ohio State.
They should be 12th or 13th in the standings.

Do we have any of the All Access games like OSU/MINN? It would be cool to hear what our staff says during games.

I don't care for all access. Maybe 5-10 minutes per team per half or something like that? Hearing both coaches simultaneously calling out things to their team for the entire game wears on me after awhile. Maybe I would feel different if it was Pike.

Regarding the OSU outcome last night, I did not see too much of it but to me it only increases the pressure on us to hold serve come Sunday. I did see a replay of the OSU player defending on the last possession and it looked clean.

Why do you feel this way? As I see it, we are now one game ahead of them in the loss column. Four possible outcomes of last night and Sunday:

Ohio State wins last night and beats us: we would be 4-3, they would be 4-2 with the 2-0 head to head advantage. End result, it would be VERY hard for us to finish ahead of them in the conference standings.

Ohio State wins last night, loses to us Sunday: we would be 5-2, they would be 3-3 and the head to head would be split. Modest but meaningful advantage for us in the standings.

Ohio State loses last night, beats us Sunday: we would be 4-3, they would be 3-3 with the tiebreaker advantage over us. That's a very small standings edge for us.

Ohio State loses last night, loses to us Sunday: we would be 5-2, they would be 2-4 and the head to head would be split. End result, they would have a lot of work to do to catch us in the standings.

I don't buy into a mindset of, "Well, they're going to be harder to beat Sunday because they lost to Minnesota."

I want a double bye finish this year. Purdue is getting one of those spots unless Edey gets injured, which I do not want to see happen. Three spots up for grabs. Ohio State losing last night made it easier for us to get one. Now it's up to us to do our part and win Sunday.

I was merely thinking the OSU loss was a very bad one for them last night and thus losing to them at home would not be a good thing for our overall resume. I see your point from a conference perspective, but I am thinking that two regular season losses to them will definitely put us behind them from an NCAA selection perspective even if we wind up slightly ahead of them in the conference standing.

Okay, I see what you mean. Let's just win Sunday and deal with it being a lower-profile win because they slid in the rankings with the Minnesota loss.

Do the refs review plays like this? Absolutely brutal call for OSU. OTOH, OSU put themselves in a position to lose against the worst team - by far - in the B10.

3 bid league won’t be treated that way though

Which 3? Too many teams are a lock to get in unless they finish under 500 in conference play.

Purdue basically lock status already.

Illinois is not missing the field with a 10-10 record. They beat UCLA and Texas.

Wisconsin already has 5 wins away from home. @ Marquette, USC (neutral) and Dayton (neutral) would be enough at 10-10.

Maybe Indiana doesn’t get to 10-10 with their injuries, but @ Xavier and UNC get them in with a 500 record.

Iowa gets in at 500. Iowa State and Clemson are looking like good wins for them. They will not be penalized the way we were for Lafayette - they were missing Kris Murray and Conner MaCaffrey when they took a bad loss. If Ron was out and Geo didn’t play at all, that Lafayette game would’ve been viewed differently too.

Michigan State will have at least 11 conference wins and they did enough in non-conference play to get in. 3 neutral wins and UK may turn it around and becomes a field team.

To be a lock, RU needs 11, but that Purdue road win is huge and we’re 4-2 so at this point we’re well positioned to get there. Also helps if Wake keeps winning.

Maryland has a neutral win over Miami that’s looking pretty good right now. The unbalanced schedule puts them at a bit of a disadvantage with more land mines. 2 games vs. Minny and Nebraska. For this reason they probably need to collect 11 wins to produce a tourney caliber resume.

NW, OSU and PSU can play their way in with strong performance in conference play. They all get in with 11+ wins in conference.

It seems mathematically impossible for the conference to get less than 6 bids. Someone has to win games in conference play even with the parity.
