We are so not in the same league as UConn

They are beat LSU 66-28 in the 4th quarter. We beat this team by 12. Wow, what a difference.

It's because RU tired them out.

Anyway, only Notre Dame has come within 10 of UConn. They beat Ohio State by 44, Nebraska by 42, DePaul at DePaul by 16, Florida State by 34. You get the idea.

With no offense intended toward UConn women's bball, their complete dominance of the sport has reduced interest in women's bball over the past several years. Earlier on, when they were already winning national titles, at least many of their games were competitive and there were other teams that believed they could win the NC. But no longer. Some teams may believe they can but I doubt that many of their fans believe it. Even UConn's own fans don't turn out for many games like they used to and Geno has called them out on it several times.

Yes we beat them by 12 but were up by around 20 before a late push on their part.

Either way, not sure exactly what we can gleam from comparing the team to UConn right. They are not the #1 team in the country right now, and by a safe margin. We are a team still finding our identity but with potential to have a good season that includes NCAAs.

I have a question...

is the ball for the women's game still smaller or is it the same size as the men now?

We've never been in the same league as Uconn when measuring consistency and excellence over time. Then again, no one really has.
That doesn't matter though. What matters is that we play to our potential, show progress, be able to compete with the top third of the conference and ultimately be playing in the conference title game this season.

There was a period when RU not only was in the same league, but had the upper hand. But not since 2008.

True. But, unfortunately for the rest of the WBB world, UConn's trajectory since then has been ever upward at a steeper angle than anyone else.

If I had to put a finger on it, I think the UConn talent over the last (fill in the blank) years has been so good as to separate them from the pack. Not that I think they can't be beaten - although maybe not every year - but it takes a perfect game from a team with outstanding talent. Few teams have the talent, and most cannot play a perfect game very often.

Agree, there was that very magical time when we were competitive and were winning some games and actually won the regular season and the BET, but my point was over the longer course of history, as Knight Time Fan has pointed out. There's no comparison when you look at their whole body of work.

Again, not a knock on RU, this applies to the WBB community as a whole.

I don't disagree. And you can see what happened, both to RU and the rest of the sport - during that time, RU got really top recruits like Cappie, Essence, Matee and Piph, and Geno had real competition from Pat for the other best players. After 2008, RU had the disaster class (which, among other things, made Piph leave early) and Pat started her decline. It's a different ballgame, and Geno has played it very well.

Our consistency was broken when Prince left early skipping sr year. a class of Mcdonalds all americans was forced to basically play year 1 with only Brittany Ray and Rashidat Junaid to lean on. If Piph stayed for senior year it would have drastically changed the results of the 4-6 seasons afterwards.

Piph actually left after the not-so-Fab Five's 1st year. I've always thought that one reason she left was the dysfunction of that class.

What's he need?

BTW--Wooden didn't ruin Men's CBB. Why would Geno?
He doesn't ruin WBB in my opinion. But, as long as he is at UConn, they are likely to remain the best team and that by a significant margin. And yes, he will almost certainly be there until he has the most wins, but eventually he will retire and enjoy life. He is extremely wealthy so far as I know (by most folks standards) and I think his wife will insist at some point.

While he doesn't ruin women's basketball - some would say he enhances it - for me the lack of meaningful competition to UConn most seasons and most games removes the incentive to watch a team that includes some of the top players in the country and plays a style of ball that is extremely pleasant to watch. It just isn't interesting, I haven't even watched many of the recent final 4 final games. Trying to figure out who is "2nd best" just isn't the same as trying to see who will win.

UConn makes women's basketball disinteresting for me. They blow out most normal teams by 40 or 50, which is no fun. Only #3 Notre Dame and #6 Maryland, both elite programs with Final Four experience, were able to keep it within 10. That's no fun.

A 10 point loss to UConn counts the same as a victory in the eyes of the selection committee.

The fault lies with the other elite womens programs not coming close in talent with UConn.UConn clearly will get the best recruits each season but still they only have a limited number of scholarships each season.Schools like Maryland,South Carolina ,Notre Dame,Stanford and Tennessee need to step up in order keep interest in the NCAA Tournament.

As for Rutgers there clearly has been a downward spiral in success starting with the recruiting class that included Sykes and four other high school all americans. Some transferred and others just never achieved in college their press clippings as high school stars. The inability to recruit big time 3 point shooters and a consistent scoring presence at the center position are the main reasons Rutgers has fallen in stature.

As to Geno he clearly must rank with John Wooden as the best college coaches based on domination of a sport for a extended period of time.
