I have a question...With no offense intended toward UConn women's bball, their complete dominance of the sport has reduced interest in women's bball over the past several years. Earlier on, when they were already winning national titles, at least many of their games were competitive and there were other teams that believed they could win the NC. But no longer. Some teams may believe they can but I doubt that many of their fans believe it. Even UConn's own fans don't turn out for many games like they used to and Geno has called them out on it several times.
We've never been in the same league as Uconn when measuring consistency and excellence over time. Then again, no one really has.
That doesn't matter though. What matters is that we play to our potential, show progress, be able to compete with the top third of the conference and ultimately be playing in the conference title game this season.
True. But, unfortunately for the rest of the WBB world, UConn's trajectory since then has been ever upward at a steeper angle than anyone else. There was a period when RU not only was in the same league, but had the upper hand. But not since 2008.
Agree, there was that very magical time when we were competitive and were winning some games and actually won the regular season and the BET, but my point was over the longer course of history, as Knight Time Fan has pointed out. There's no comparison when you look at their whole body of work. There was a period when RU not only was in the same league, but had the upper hand. But not since 2008.
I can't either - but there is at least a reasonable hope that Geno might be retired.I honestly cannot even begin to imagine what WCBB will look like in 5 years.
He doesn't ruin WBB in my opinion. But, as long as he is at UConn, they are likely to remain the best team and that by a significant margin. And yes, he will almost certainly be there until he has the most wins, but eventually he will retire and enjoy life. He is extremely wealthy so far as I know (by most folks standards) and I think his wife will insist at some point. What's he need?
BTW--Wooden didn't ruin Men's CBB. Why would Geno?

If I had to put a finger on it, I think the UConn talent over the last (fill in the blank) years has been so good as to separate them from the pack. Not that I think they can't be beaten - although maybe not every year - but it takes a perfect game from a team with outstanding talent. Few teams have the talent, and most cannot play a perfect game very often.
