Forecast for the OSU game: pain and plenty of tears raining down. But with regard to the weather, it looks like this could be our 5th straight game with gorgeous gameday weather (all of which were well predicted 5-7 days out, which is unusual), as it's looking like Saturday will feature seasonably warm temps with high temps around 70F (typical high/low in Columbus on 10/1 is 72/50) with comfortable humidity and very likely dry conditions. The only possible fly in the ointment is what happens with any remnants from Ian, but those remnants are very likely to stay well east of Columbus. So, even at 6 days out, this forecast is almost a lock.

No forecast change for the OSU game. Still a slight chance that Ian's remnants could bring a shower or two to Columbus, but with Ian moving slowly, that looks very unlikely. Should be warm and dry, but will keep an eye on Ian's progress.

Been a little distracted by Ian....still looks seasonable with highs in the upper 60s, but there's a slight chance of a few light showers from the remnants of Ian, although most of the precip is forecast tp stay SE of Columbus.

Bigger issue is that it's likely to be breezy to downright windy (gusts to 30 mph), which I imagine favors us given their passing game...could drop the line to 37.

We need a massive storm at SHI. Stop playing Texas Hold 'Em and get on this.

Well, it's now looking a bit wetter for gameday in Columbus, as Ian moved significantly faster than expected since last night meaning the precip from the remnants of Ian are more likely to make it to Ohio on Saturday during the day rather than after the game. The official forecast is calling for about 0.1" of rain during the 3-4 hours before the game (tailgates) and another 0.1" during the game, which is enough to make it kind of a crappy day and to affect the game, especially since windy conditions are a lock for the game (up to 30 mph gusts). High temps are now forecast to be in the low 60s, given full cloud cover being likely.

It's not a lock that this rain will fall, though, as there is still no rain forecast just 30 miles NW of Columbus - on the other hand 1/2" or more of rain is forecast just 30-40 miles SE of Columbus, so a difficult rainfall forecast with that tight of a gradient. Glad I didn't call the "seasonably warm and likely dry" forecast a lock over the past several days, lol. See the AFD below.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
1005 PM EDT Thu Sep 29 2022

LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The remnants of Ian will be moving toward Southeast Ohio and
Northeast Kentucky on Saturday. Current model trends suggest
categorical pops in far southeast locations including Portsmouth and
Vanceburg, diminishing to a chance of showers along I-71.
Northwestern locations such as Celina may see no precipitation. Wind
gusts around 30 mph may be observed in all locations. Rain chances
diminish Saturday night and Sunday as the system pushes east.
Rainfall amounts could reach an inch in the far southeast.

Temperatures on Saturday vary from west to east, with highs ranging
from the low and mid 60s east under clouds and showers, up to the
upper 60s west where there is no precip forecast.

If it becomes windy they will just run the ball and force us to stop them. Which we won't.

Not that it matters that much, but there's a thin band of showers over Columbus now that might last 20 minutes and then one more band pinwheeling in from the NE that, if it holds together, would likely put some light to moderate rain down for 20-30 minutes in the first half. A lot of these bands have been drying up east of Columbs though. Will definitely be breezy with ~15 mph winds and gusts to 25 mph.
