Anyone have updates on the possibility of the not-so-mysterious big man arriving on campus to join the team for this season?

Not so mysterious because everybody seems to have come to the conclusion that it's Doucoure reclassifying. Mostly because we haven't heard any rumblings of a Euro or African player coming over last minute, it isn't a 5-star decommiting and coming here without sitting out, and if it was a US based player, it wouldn't likely be as much excitement since if he was that good, he'd have been picked up already and not coming here to likely start.

And

And you say "not-so-mysterious" because . . .
Because all speculation has been that it's Doucoure based on previous Fat Cat/Mod comments and other speculation and a quote from one of his teammates a couple of weeks ago that he's enrolled here. I said mysterious because BK's posts that a possible big man eligible this year might be coming did not mention anyone by name.

Suspect that Pikiell & staff are inclined to triple verify before tipping their hand - as well they should - they have been operating in a manner that is intended to build credibility and the last thing that they would want to do is make fanfare about some addition - and then have it fail to come to pass because i's had not been dotted and t's had not been crossed.

After the initial chatter, have been reluctant to engage in continued speculation - mostly because it was indicated that whatever might happen is already in process and it is just going to depend upon all of the pieces lining up properly - - so it did not seem like there was much utility in putting forward various names - just to produce uncomfortable silence or carefully crafted non-answers - if the target was correctly identified.

Maybe next week things reach a point where all can be revealed

I like this update. No substantial news, but basically things are still going on behind the scenes. I like it.

It has to be Doucoure. If its someone new we don't have enough ships to add Harper.

It could be a grad transfer, but BK ruled that out.

Yes, there is essentially a "doughnut hole" - one currently unutilized scholarship for the 2017-2018 season is sitting there - but then with the prospects who have committed to come in as freshmen in the fall of 2018 - the 'hole' disappears. So, either a reclass of an '18 to '17 or a one year 'plug in' of a grad transfer will resolve the current opening - and ... I'd guess that you are probably leaning in the right direction ... but I still wonder...

figure all will be clear in the next two weeks - or less

With the schedule announced and the really tough first five BIG games, its tough being patient awaiting how we fill the last schollie knowing we need this "big"in time to battle these teams. Hope to hear some positive news soon!!

It can only be doucoure, common sense, a poster weeks ago went thru his profile, he's had enough schooling and is already 19, so makes sense that he should potentially qualify

When does the last summer session end? Is there a chance he's taking a class now that he needs to reclassify?

The very last day of the very last Summer session at Rutgers -NB was August 16... but when grades would be 'official' - and how fast documentation would be fully compiled & delivered to the NCAA Clearing House is unclear - also note that taking courses at RU would be only one of a great number of ways to obtain necessary classes & credit (benefit of RU = streamlines process & virtually eliminates legitimacy questions if correct classes are chosen) ... in general - the recent news about Marvin Bagley III plans of finishing classes & reclassifying & going to Duke - and the expected rapid processing of those credentials may provide reassurance that there is reason to be optimistic.
If this is what is going on - the silence about it is understandable - it is not a simple process and there have been numerous past cases involving other athletes & other universities where things have gotten tangled up on technicalities & bureaucracy.

considering this some more - and still sense that you are pointing in the right direction ...
but just to keep the intrigue going - and purely in the spirit of curious exploration of this topic - I don't believe that the 'grad transfer' option was said to be absolutely entirely out of the question - just generally not Pikiell's desired move - and definitely not an option the Pikiell would automatically instantly explore.
I think the following is the BK post that seemed to take grad transfer off the table

No offense meant...But how can anyone be sure of that?

Coach has said many times that he does not want to go grad transfer as it really doesn't improve the program beyond 1 season

-but this was in response to a poster who was stating emphatically that it was a certainty that Pikiell had contacted the surprisingly now available grad transfer - Jack Whitman (who, by the way, has had - zero - mention in the media for the past nearly 3 weeks ... hummmm.....)

I still think you are on the right track - but Pikiell has utilized grad transfer in the past - and undoubtedly will again at some time in the future if it makes sense - and that Whitman thing is still a curiosity

Ah well - while this waiting may produce anxiety - it is the good kind - not like in the past where it was ominous concerns about what else can go wrong.

Very well written. You must be in the legal field. $$$$

Rutgers teaches hs classes. To re-classify he has to finish hs. Correct?

It was speculated that Doucoure has been attending classes at Rutgers - but not confirmed.
I have no knowledge of Rutgers teaching regular standard "High School" classes - but there are certainly first level college classes - and possibly some "prerequisite" intro classes taught at Rutgers that might fulfill some of the requirements that a student wanting to accelerate might have - and if the course title & syllabus were conventional & fell withing the range of courses that fulfill requirements - it would be highly unlikely that the NCAA would reject or question.

To reclassify & enter as an incoming freshman now - it is not just "graduate" - must also fulfill the clearing house requirements:
