If you guys are going to keep throwing out names that retreads and unproven up and comers, why not Clawson?

He has been a head coach more than 10 years, and has won at each progressive move up (Fordham, Richmond, BGSU). He is a Northeastern guy.

Sure he is still struggling at Wake in year 2, but the cupboard was BARE. He has drastically improved recruiting there.

Not a dedicated spread guy, but has shown the ability to be flexible and get the ball to playmakers with spread elements where possible.

You have to think RU could lure him a way from Wake (arguably the worst ACC program). He makes $2.25M. If RU can't pay more than that, we're not getting anyone worthwhile anyway. So why both shifting the deck chairs?

Clawson will have better options than Rutgers. He will be a candidate for the Va Tech and Virginia jobs. He had real success at the University of Richmond, and knows the recruiting turf, especially the Richmond and Tidewater areas, keys to success at those two Virginia schools. Players he recruited to Richmond were eventual national champions for the subsequent Richmond coach (who might be the UVa coach destined to be canned). Clawson has assisted at both Lehigh and Fordham if I remember correctly and has a close friend in former highly successful Lehigh coach Kevin Higgins, who knew the recruiting areas of NJ, PA, FL, and Atlanta areas during his days at Lehigh (and later The Citadel). Rutgers would be lucky to land Clawson.

It would take roughly $2.35M to equal that on an after tax basis And then you have to balance a superior recruiting territory versus the administration, the faculty, the Star Ledger and (last and fortunately least) Scarlet Nation (most of whom would want him fired after the first loss).
