And no, I don't mean the B1G build RWJ Center. That construction is going on great, the lot is all cleared. But this week they also fenced off a separate area, in front of the ticket office and main entrance, that square field in front of the RAC sign. They started digging it up today. What are the plans here? A fan plaza like Tim Pernetti drew up years ago?

I saw that as well this morning and was wondering what that will become.I stopped and got tickets for the exhibition vs. the Johnnies.

Can't tell much from pic but it appears they're leveling out the space rather than digging. If so they may simply be sprucing up the area in front of the RAC which was kind of blah as I remember.

Easy lawsuit settlement with sprained ankle in blacktop pothole on path to parking lot. No lights and a beat up path = easy money.

A central location for the hucksters unloading tickets pre-game, normally in the walkways and parking lot aisles. Some of those guys have made it a career (or at least a steady sideline). Have wondered more than once if they are Ticket Dept. employees.

I can't imagine a spanking new athletic performance sitting next to the dreary outside look of the RAC. I'm hoping the big time donors see this as well and we continue to spruce up the entire area.
Hopefully, funding allows for a new lobby and entrance to the RAC.

What I saw was a bulldozer removing the lawn from the area in front of the RAC and putting it into one large pile. Hopefully someone will have an answer for us soon.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere they were fixing up the facade and landscape in front if the RAC. It's been a long time coming if that's true.

I also remember Hobbs saying something along the lines that you can't have a drab RAC sitting next to a beautiful new facility... maybe they're prepping for the start to that (even if it's stage 1 of 10).

Or they are restoring the space to the original Native American burial grounds and finally remove the curse on this program. ;)

Paging @e5fdny for his thoughts on power washing the building:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Well I sure hope at the bare minimum that’s what’s going on.

And as others have mentioned better lighting and smoother walkways.

This things mentioned here should not require a donation as they should be part of the every day/month/year operating maintenance budget for the RAC.

Painting the sides as I have suggested could be done with funds raised by us.

We provide the worst renderings of our projects. Other schools provide their COMPLETE renderings in VR. :joy:

yeah, someone else always needs to fund these projects not us common folk

If they're building a road bed or access - They need a way to get heavy steel and other materials into that side of the construction. Cement trucks and pumps that won't sink. They may have to install conduit to access services that exist on the new Rockefeller Rd side that were never upgraded on the Hospital Road side.

Haha i know the whole thread is kind of tongue in cheek. I think we can all agree the RAC is ugly no matter the angle.

I personally think the RAC is a very cool, neat building...it just needs a lot of TLC and a severe spruce up! Whethers it is power washing, repainting of the gray with some new funky material, new sidewalks...or all, it can look very impressive. It's been let go for far too long

If freakin Livingston can look as good as it does now instead of looking like the famine field it used to look like, there's hope for the RAC!

WPN, remember the towers of the 1980's. Basically prison cells for students, 8 stories high. No wonder donations are so low. Anyone who spent time there was grateful to survive, much less graduate.

We are all in agreement on this.

I used to leave my car in the lot between The RAC and the Health Center since I lived on College Avenue. Nothing ever happened to it and it was there for three semesters. Livingston Campus was fairly awful back then and the School of Business was in a small temporary-type structure. Amazing what you can do with a few million dollars.
