What do you consider a blowout?

When the starters come out. There are butt kickings with lopsided scores but a real blowout turns into an exhibition game. Probably 5 TDs or more in the late 3rd.

when you feel there is no chance of victory.. based on the score.. from about the middle of the third quarter or earlier.

Example: At the end of the 1st qtr of the Washington game.. everyone said to themselves that this was a blowout.

Example 2: In the famous 06 Louisville game.. when they scored late in the 2nd qtr to go up 28-10.. we were on the edge of our seats and nervous for a loss.. but no one thought a blowout was coming.

21? LOL...hardly....Top 10 teams would be "blown out" several times a year if that were the case. All depends on the game, and HOW the score happens, but I'd say 28 is the bare minimum to be considered "blow out" level.

Blowhard = Douchebag Harbaugh going for 2 point plays when up by 4 scores and leaving starters in the 4th Qtr when up by 70.

For me, 31+ points is a blowout. 28-0 is not a good score, but not completely embarrassing. If RU lost to OSU or MIchigan 28-0 this year, that would not scream "blowout" to me.

Score not enough information. Games that end 45-21 are 24-21 after three, and games that end 52-45 are 28-0 at halftime.

Much like a joke you don't quite get, sometimes you have to be there.

Certainly 7 points is not a blow out. At 7 points, you never know if there will be a last second TD to tie the game. And 14 points is not a blow out. With a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter, you still have to worry about the trailing team scoring, and then getting the ball back with an onside kick. A 21 point lead in the 4th quarter is a comfortable lead, and you can be fairly confident that you'll win, even if the trailing team scores to bring the final score within 14. But a comfortable lead is not the same as a blow out (assuming a blow out is a commanding or one-sided victory, not just a comfortable victory).

You really need to get to 28 points to get into blow out territory. But as Rutgers fans know, 28 point leads can be overcome. Also a 28 point victory which was a 21 point lead late in the 4th quarter, with a last minute touchdown, doesn't really qualify as a blowout. But a 28 point victory which is a 35 point lead late in the 4th quarter with a last minute touchdown by the trailing team does qualify as a blow out.

So I'd say that a blow out is a 35+ point victory, or a victory in which the winning team leads by 35+ points at the 8 minute mark in the 4th quarter.

Blowout is how game was played....not necessarily the final score....to me.

A 33-0 game might be played closer than a 21 - 10 game. It all depends.

Diego Maradona has a different take on the "blow out:"

anything more than 3 TDs and 3 2pt conversions. So anything more than 24pts differential is a blowout in my book.
