What Happens When Teams Qualify All Ten?

There have been 35 teams since 2014 (the 16 and 33 seed era) that have qualified all ten for the tournament.

I took a look at what their average seed was (thin vertical black line to the far right in each row), and how they performed relative to that seed (red/green bars).

No real surprise here. The higher the average seed (the lower number), the harder it is to beat the seed.

But there are no guarantees, as two of the worst performances relative to seed came from teams in the bottom quarter of seeds.

(How to read: Lehigh 2021 had an average seed of ~22 for its 10 wrestlers. They missed their average seed by about 1 spot, for an average finish of ~23).

I knew we were on the list but didn't realize how sh*tty we did until this graph. At the time though it was really a big step up for the program. Qualified ten and took 24th. I never thought we would regress from that point.
Huh? You can say all you want about the past few years, but Rutgers didn't regress from THAT point in 2016.

What is so hard to comprehend? I never thought we'd be out of the Top 25 after that point. Everything at that time seemed to be heading in the right direction. Yet here we are, debating when the program began its slide.

Yes! We weren’t last on the list (2nd worst). Woo-Hoo!!!!

Still amazing to qualify 10 … think RU was the only team that year.

I kind of figured since 2016 with multiple AAs per year for five years in a row, 13 AAs, 4 B1G champions, 2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, and a 9th place finish in the NCAAs wasn't a slide since the time of 10 qualifiers. Clearly one of Rutgers worst stretches in history now that I listed them and thought about it. My bad, I cant comprehend and we really suck.

Oklahoma State and Nebraska also qualified 10 in 2016. But it raises a trivia question.

2019 was the last year only one team qualified all 10 (Ohio State), when was the last year no team qualified all 10 for the tournament?

The Covid year? Lol. I’m surprised the year RU qualified 10(nearly a decade ago holy smokes) we had 2 AA.. still finished 24th.. was expecting one of those strong dual meet teams but no superstars or scoring wrestlers. Miss having Ash on the team..

Qualifications were done and brackets were set for 2020 before the tournament was cancelled. That year both Iowa and Nebraska qualified 10, but in 2012 no team qualified all 10 wrestlers. There were six teams that qualified 9 wrestlers (Cornell, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Penn State).
