The case can be made that there are 3 or 4 three stars in the class that could easily have been 4 stars
Who?
Petersen
Toure
Strong
Perhaps Oliviere
Why: Petersen was a four star as an offensive tackle last year, this year he played DL and went both ways, he will be a defensive Tackle at the next level but only was a DL for this past year
Toure played multiple position on both offense and defense had good numbers at all, but not outstanding # at any one, but was all over the field helping his team, could easily have been a 4 if he had concentrated on a single position

Strong, how do you be the #1 player in the NY state and not be a 4, again another guy who played multiple position on different sides of the ball.
Oliviere great offer list, did not allow a sack in 2 yrs has all the measurable, but committed early and played at a small school with a poor record in SJ
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what your # is, it only matters how you perfor at the next level.

NIL is the the absolute worst thing that could have happened to RU football. Tough recruiting story made nearly impossible. And you can’t blame GS for that.
So true.

Correct. Can't blame HC Schiano.
100% not his fault.
But sh@t happens.
It's wasn't Luka Garza's that the NBA doesn't highly value old school centers anymore and he got drafted late 2nd.
Again - sh@t happens.

If rhe main draw for a coach was his recruiting ability and now that ability isn't as valuable - the school has to consider this new situation when evaluating the HC/staff and direction going forward.

Still need to be a good recruiter. But you need to be one who can hand out money. It just gets us back to where he recruited before NIL. Middle of the BIG, top 40 or so classes. Without it, you lose ground and that’s what’s happening. We can’t fix it by finding a game day coach who isn’t a good recruiter without NIL either.

But maybe someone who can rally money and sell it to those who can make NIL happen can.

GS was able to the administration. Some out out there can do that to fans and alumni.

GS would he better off saying I can get these specific guys but I need x amount to do it.

I think that’s what he’s saying

Is Bob Barker working because he would be a perfect fit at RU👍

On other teams.

Dylan Braithwaite may have been a 4 star if he wasn't hurt this year. He ran a 4.37 at Rutgers camp. He's fast fast.

Top 2 players in NJ are going to Texas schools. NIL is not an excuse. Fans will have to step up. Talk is cheap.

I don't think NIL is the whole story. Recruiting is still about winning.
Respectfully disagree. There is correlation between winning and money/NIL. Recruiting is about money/NIL. However, NIL/recruiting doesn’t always produce wins. TAM is the prime example.

Let’s stop complaining thread after thread and actually do something about it. They are matching whatever you give. 10 bucks a month or whatever. Let’s go!!!

i recall when NIL started there was some opinions that the proximity to NYC would be a lightning rod to NIL deals for RU...

Instead, the sport has been consumed by hysteria about players supposedly being offered huge NIL deals, even if the numbers tossed about far outstrip reality. Money can certainly be a factor, but it is rarely the only factor. Coaching, geography, playing time, NFL development, personal relationships, tradition, style of play, academics and so on matters as well.

Besides, top schools already used money to lure top talent by signing the best coaches or building the most opulent facilities.

Still, even allowing that some players might choose a school based solely on a direct NIL promise, the Invariable Principle shows that “the spread of talent across those markets won’t substantially change.”

Respectfully disagree, Greg Schiano needs to step up and stop using NIL and the fans as a crutch for his recruiting failures. Successful recruiting even in the NIL error is still basically about building relationships and selling your vision for your program. Fans have very little, if anything, to do with that. If Fran Brown was here you would have seen a much different class of athletes committing to Rutgers this cycle. A 60 year old fat white guy landing in a helicopter doesn't impress anybody in 2022.

Guess it can’t be you as a fan’s fault so must be all Greg. Btw, how many kids went to TAM and Texas in 2022 and 2021? All about relationships.

Here’s what they should do with NIL. Eliminate all the scholarships and let every kid negotiate their own deal For a college education. I’d give them 1-2 year deals and let them pay tuition with their NIL.

Riding around in helicopters to go visit recruits with no other offers 🤣

A helicopter may not work anymore but a 60 year old guy showing up at the recruits front door dressed up in a scarlet night or even dressed as a freaking chicken with a briefcase full of big bills will do better than most recruiters relationships or not.

I guess 56 rounds to 60 for you, and yes, he is white, but where did "fat guy" come from?

Why don’t you step up and volunteer as “ace recruiter” you obviously have all the answers. Clearly most anybody can out recruit and out coach out present head coach and staff.
The sheer stupidy of some of the posters on this sight is mind boggling. Don’t offer anything constructive or thoughtful just blind vitriol
Happy Holidays

Our recruiting must step it up. The last two years for GS were much better than this year in recruiting. Losing Brown really set us back. He helped the last two seasons. If GR does know almost every high school coach in NJ and he coached two years in the NFL and was defensive coordinator at Ohio State when they won a national championship he should be able to recruit much better players to earn his $ 4 million a year. He must step up his game. 1-8 against BIG teams will get us nowhere.

OP asked where the 4 stars are. It’s also about developing the non 4 stars. Pike does it. Football staff needs to do it.
