Part of me just thinks we're manipulated into thinking we are a good program. The instagram 1-0, the videos put out. It's terrible that we are on live tv and until late in the 4th we don't have one point.

Talent difference is there, sure. But the rutgers football team seemed to be a disgrace last night. I feel bad for all you fans who actually paid to watch it. I listened to it on radio because I don't have the money, but it's a shame people are paying good money to see a team like Rutgers last night. 49-0?Prime time stage? All the underdog potential in the world?I just feel like fans are being slapped in the face.

Is it time we start to re think the future of the program?Should wealth be spread to different sports at the university?Should basketball get more support(I am a big fan of the program)?

Part of me just thinks we're manipulated into thinking we are a good program.

Here's the thing: most/many OFF of the boards haven't been "manipulated" as many on the boards have been. People I know who are fans, but not lunatics like us, have a much more "middle-of-the-road" view of the program, and they're expectations are a lot less, both on and off the field. Just look back at how a good portion of the posters here fell for the recruiting bs were we given, by a few posters, last year. It was all "smoke-and-mirror" stuff but, because people WANT the best for RU Football - and all of us do - many fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

It's just a part of being a fan, but honestly, until we move away from Flood, and recruiting gets A LOT better, as Gerry DeNardo said last week:

"these 3 teams - Rutgers, Indiana, and Maryland - will be fighting, like a Super Bowl, for that 5th spot in the East every year, until something changes"

We are mediocre, we are in the middle to the back of the mediocre pack. Under schiano we were in the front to the middle of the mediocre/middle pack. This will not change until flood is gone.

We are a good coach away from being a good team.

Imagine even Schiano here, starting Rettig and Martin, with an OC who knows what he is doing. A team that plays defense. That enters the 4th Q with timeouts.

That team probably would have at least beaten Wazzu and TTFP.

The sad thing is, I am not sure if we will we ever have the resources to overtake Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan (and Penn State too) in the East division. Right now, the two divisions are lopsided, and we are going to be swimming against the tide with programs rich in history, facilities and tradition that we don't have. So, unless we can do a Baylor type turnaround or a slow build with 3 star talent like Michigan State or Wisconsin did, we better get used to mediocre to middling.

I don't think we have been manipulated at all. The art of marketing is putting a positive spin on whatever you are selling, even if it is a giant steaming turd. We are not a giant steaming turd. We are finding our way the hard way in one of the most competitive P5 divisions with a coaching staff and talent that was built to play in the AAC. We have some excellent talent, but for a variety of reasons it is not being developed and utilized to put RU in a better position to look better on the field.

.

Yeah, I never liked these divisions when they were announced, but you want to have a fighting chance, regardless, every few years, right?

Flood is just a figure head to me. His tough guy faces are starting to get old. People say he's classy, but then his players get arrested.

I am more a basketball fan. Actually, a lot more, but I hope to see the players do well for themselves. I am probably middle of the road, but a 49-0 blowout just makes it seem like the program really is a joke right now. OSU, sure, but you can't score 3 points or get a safety?BIG won't mean much if we are at the bottom. It's time we start sharing the wealth.

Maybe a couple extra football fans come to a basketball game. Maybe more money gets thrown that way. Because as it stands right now, football is the focus, but the results are nowhere to be seen.

It was 49-7, not 49-0.

You are right about the marketing. But marketing like this just makes the fan feel dumb. That we actually believe our program is decent.

I don't want to be anything but Rutgers. Don't need to overtake michigan state. Just have a fairly competitive, no blowouts stance.Score one point in regular, non junk time. That's all I ask.

Sure I do. Doesn't everybody? But what will RU do to advance us? If Flood happens to go this year, we will more than likely come up with some half-arsed hire, paying $1.2 million per year and no reasonable budget for assistants. So if everything is true about our tightwad President, I would rather we wait it out another year and keep our eye on a bigger prize down the road, as long as we can tread water and not sink to the bottom while we are waiting it out.

Damn, it is frustrating being a Rutgers football fan.

I think you are getting too caught up in the moment of last night. Yes, it stung. But last night's blowout does not mean we are not decent. It means we were not prepared with the best plan and/or did not execute the plan. I think it may be more of the former. RU has a history of WTF losses prior to Flood, and so do many other teams.

We have a chance to finish well and notch 3 more wins, and hopefully avoid embarrassment.

Yeah, you are right- I am. Just the fact that we were on the big stage, packed house, on TV with a blowout loss stings. Packed house for a terrible performance. Just sad for fans, that's all.

Years ago RU invested in Women's BB , spent the money and hired C Vivian Stringer, and it paid almost instant dividends and returns. It will take a big leap in investing in a very high profile Head Coach to make a meaningful difference in the Football program (and men's BB too) to get RU to be annual contenders for Division and League Championships. I'm not sure that will ever happen.

I think we are middle of the pack right now. And contrary to popular belief over the last 15 months our recruiting has been middle of the pack as well. Now here is the gamble: Do you want to a)stay a middle of the road, mediocre team for the next 3-5 years when we can reevaluate the situation when we have much more money coming in, or will you put all of your chips in the middle of the table knowing that you have a 50/50 chance, either you get someone who keeps us the same or makes us better than the program is currently or get someone who puts us in a worse position and in 3-5 years the next coach will have a much much bigger hole to climb out of.

You guys are in a tough division. The big 10 did you no favors by grouping you with UM and OSU. The conference championship will always go through Columbus or Ann Arbor. Things will get better. Changing conferences had been tough on almost every program across the country.

You want more resources thrown at basketball, a program with a history of even more futility and idiotic scandal ridden coaches than the football program?

For a while, it seems like football was the main focus as far as spending. Now I feel we are at a point to where we can spread some of the wealth with no real hurt to the results. Some fans of football go to some basketball games and see where money could be spread elsewhere.

What are we making from being in the big ten again?I honestly forgot. Or was that a marketing thing, too?

The rankings year in and year out will change, but over the course of 10-15 years this will be the overall rankings. I don't see it changing.

  1. Osu- clear and away #1 and it's not close
  2. Michigan. Again, I don't see this as close
  3. Penn State - they have the resources to make mistakes and recover. More so than MSU.
  4. MSU. Close with Penn State but falls behind on recruiting and facilities
  5. This is where it's tough. Rutgers has a chance with the recruiting area they're in, but UA wants to make UMD the Oregon of the east. Money cures many problems. I give this spot to Maryland until I see otherwise
  6. Rutgers because of jersey.
  7. Indiana. They're playing the best they'll play. This isn't the standard for IU.

Hyperbole much?

What??? Riddle me this: just which coaching scandal got rutgers nationwide attention even during non sports shows like good morning america not too long ago? Just which team hasn't played in a post season tournament that invites about 900 teams for decades and decades?

Not asking for more, just some. Hey man, you don't see the players in trouble all over the place, do you?You don't see 30+ point blowouts night in and night out(alright just 20pts)?

We can say what we want about spending, but the results don't see to be any more different than getting us close to middle of the road. Why not share wealth, create a new fan base and get another Rutgers program on the road to becoming middle of the road, or a mile from it?

Also, don't put me as a fan of Mike Rice, but how about Ray Rice- that was far worse than Mike Rice using a bad word and throwing basketballs at people. How about kids robbing students?Football program has had wore incidents. Didn't get as much publicity, but worse in actuality.

I have zero faith in Flood developing middle of the road talent, or running a system on either side of the ball.
Shootouts with bad teams is the best you'll get.
That Indiana comeback that showed so much heart was really one of the worst football game I've ever seen by two crappy teams

Still curious as to what you think.

I don't know if I do,either. It's all recruiting. Anthony Russo is good. Flood overall has had some success here. After this year and what has gone on though, unsure.

That's exactly what I said but getting a new coach will give us hope that we are above it. The recruiting for Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State are so great there is very little change we beat them in the future. That's fifth place if we are lucky,

We've played 4 conf games, won 1 and been the biggest margin of victory on the season for 2. The state of the program is not good.

If Baylor and TCU can come from nothing and be ranked #2 and #3 while beating the Texas Longhorns 50-7, than yes, one day it is possible that we compete and possibly pass OSU, Michigan etc. We have more of a shot than even Purdue and Indiana because we at least have a fanbase and a lot of people in the area that will get behind a winning RU. The key is that we have to find our one coach, our RG3, to put us over the top.

NJ talent is throughout the NFL

NJ talent is starring at many of the marquee college programs across the nation

Keep the best of NJ home with a dynamic coach/recruiter (such as Schiano, Rhule or Durkin), then grab gems when you can from PA/FL/DE/MD/NY... and BUILD.

Meyer, Harbaugh or Dantanio will move on one day, if not multiple... and we can seize our place... if we prepare ourselves IN ADVANCE to be in that position.

I don't see how this is any more embarrassing or disappointing than when the men's basketball team got blown out by 61 to Louisville. Maybe we should spend the money on soccer or wrestling.

We need three wins to go to a bowl. We should beat Army and Maryland. So, we have to win one of Nebraska, Wisconsin and Michigan. I think we have a shot at Michigan on the road.
We have Nebraska at home.

As fans, we have to get our heads screwed on straight and get ready to scream out a lung and be horse for a week. We have Nebraska at home!!

Last night was great! We played #1 OSU at home at night in Rutgers Stadium game on prime time national TV. Amazing!

From what I saw, OSU is going to win the National Championship.
2014
Big Ten Championship
OSU 59
#11 Wisconsin 0

OSU is that good!!!

Interesting point. Easy answer though. The football program gets more funding, correct? Therefore, it shouldn't have thee types of losses. That lville loss was two years ago. The basketball program hasn't been funded for a while, and the results show. Should we expect a program without that much monetary attention to have different results? It shares it's facilities with the womans team, too.

What wealth are we spreading? We have wealth? Why wasn't I informed of this?

More money has been used on the football program rather than the basketball program, right? That is the money I am talking about. Share it to another program, if the results in the football program aren't earth shattering to say the least.
