Maduro is an authoritarian leading a narco State. Not a socialist democracy like most of our allies.

Maduro is apparently quite the dumbass, but U.S. sanctions are killing Venezuala's petro-based economy.

By your standards, so is Japan, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden.

A stupid talking point and a lack of basic understanding of systems of governance and economic organization is still a stupid talking point and a lack of basic understanding of systems of governance and economic organization no matter how many times it’s repeated.

Wrong, he was democratically elected and serves the people and refuses to be a puppet of the U.S. Corporate State.

    Stop. Come on.

Venezuela isn't a democracy. Maduro was not democratically elected. He threw out the Constitution without any up/down vote to override the National Assembly. Venezuela imprisons political opponents including left wing ones.

And neither is Nicaragua nor Cuba.

The far left's justified complaints about the erosion of democracy in this country, Brazil, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Israel and others come off as very duplicitous when you can't concede that Maduro is a POS.

And BTW- I am not justifying American foreign policy, especially in LatAm...but that doesn't justify the SEBIN in Venezuela tossing people in jail.

Let's not forget our dearest allies if you ask the GOP- the UK or Israel.

Both had years of conservative governments. Somehow, they never got to privatizing healthcare or charging massive interest on student loans. Weird, huh?

Yeah. We can't have Americans traveling to Cuba and buttressing their dictatorship.

We need Americans in those beacons of freedom like Saudi Arabia.

Nothing shouts freedom like a good bonesaw. Good thing we hand them 8BN in weapons. How non-socialist of us. I feel safer already, financing the country where the 9-11 hijackers came from, but at least I can't buy a Havana Club bottle of rum. Ah, the freedom.

I’ve been to every one of these countries except France and have spoken with many citizens there who have been to the US. I can’t remember one person who did not admire, if not envy the US....and that includes the last 3 years. The healthcare systems there are inferior to ours with long waits for important procedures. There “socialist” economies mostly benefit the lazy and the uneducated with almost no motivation to better oneself. Their governments like it that way. Unarmed citizens with total reliance on the government for everything and control over its citizens.

possibly you failed to notice that literally no one in any of the countries you visited would prefer our healthcare debacle to the far superior, far less expensive, one they have.

My wife has lived in Italy and Canada. She’d take our system in a heartbeat. I’ve Been to hospitals Mexico, Canada, and Italy. They ask for a credit card before they even give you paperwork. You guys cool with turning away any non US citizens who can’t provide an Amex that’s run up front?

A), i don't believe you for a second about your wife, unless maybe she's rich and money is no object.

B), having proof of payment before treatment is what we have now, not what most single payer/single negotiator countries have.

no other industrialized country in the world wants our healthcare system.

no one in the US who actually pays for their own healthcare, wants ours.

    nice try though.

Think all of those countries are great, but this is home.

Just totally idiotic to suggest that Democrats want to turn the US into Venezuela or Cuba - because some of us believe in single payer health care and others think at minimum we should give people the option to buy into Medicare.

Would think it’s the Trumpanzees are fine with an authoritarian regime. I’d argue that you guys would prefer to live in some failed state/military dictatorship that doesn’t provide anything to its citizens.

even funnier if they realized that a socialist democrat isn’t the same as a socialist, you know, cuz central planning.

but most don’t actually know what communism actually is either. Hint: USSR wasn’t really a communist state as much as it was a totalitarian dictatorship.

Russia, Venezuela, and Cuba are all totalitarian dictatorships. So is every Middle-Eastern country for that matter. I’m not afraid of socialism turning us into one of those. I am afraid of more socialist policies turning us into France, Denmark, Netherlands, or Sweden. I don't want their healthcare systems, their unemployment rates, or lack of opportunity.

Why do people believe everything their corrupt government and or the corrupt corporate media tells them.
Republicans know that Democrats lie just ask them, and Democrats know that Republicans lie just ask them so when both Republicans and Democrats agree on issues such as Venezuela, going to war over non existing WMDs in Iraq or when they agree with anything you know your your pants are down around your ankles and you are being bent over the table.

    A. Ok. What part don’t you believe? That my wife has lived in those places? Her family who still lives in Canada has come here for healthcare.
    B. You couldn’t t be more wrong. You walk in to an ER and they treat you. Regardless of money or insurance
    C. Not only do I pay for healthcare I pay for the insurance of over a dozen employees.
Stop making crap up. It’s sad

    Two points:

The most basic issue with socialism is it immediately increases the power of government. America was founded on the premiss of Liberty and freedom.

The allies that are used of examples of functioning socialism are floated by a good amount of American aid. It would be interesting to see how happy those countries would really be if it wasn’t for America underwriting their bills. Many probably wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the threat of American military protection.

You can't argue with Ted. He has his websites; his "convictions". He is like some Brit intellectuals in the 30's, blindly believing in Communism in Russia. He reminds me of a less-intelligent Lincoln Steffens, an avowed muckraker who found much wanting in American society. He visited Communist Russia and came back saying "I have seen the future and it works". Ted is a dupe of those that wish us ill.

I like the anti-war stance they are both taking, but can't vote for a big government socialist.

I guess that's why i asked the original question. You don't seem to like either party and don't believe their lies. I'm with you on that. I just don't get how you think growing the government with their policies will change that?

Unlike the United States where the corporations control the government.
We have inverted totalitarianism to classical totalitarianism–fascism, communism as explained by Sheldon Wolin, Prof. Politics Emeritus,Princeton
