Why can't we be Iowa?

If you are an Alum and have followed the football team for any length you should already know that answer.

Just enjoy it for what it is. A bunch of kids wearing bad uniforms, representing your alma mater with little support or guidance. That and don't expect much and you'll be fine.

They don't have tons of 5 star kids but they come to play.

We CAN be Iowa theoretically. In fact we might be Iowa right now and we don't know it.

If we did that the past 4 years no one here would think in their wildest dreams that we'd go ahead and challenge for an undefeated reg season in 2015.

Poor president
AD... Jury still out
Pathetic HC
Who knows about the assistants
Uniforms are F***KING pathetic

Iowa: Stability. Stability. Stability. No idea how Iowa's HC has lasted this long. Stability. Stability. Stability. And those uniforms are F**KING CLASSIC.

It was fun to watch the game today with my 4 yr old. Kid, that's Nebraska. That's Iowa. Until day he dies, those teams will look and play exactly the size: prideful and strong.

Two words. Player development. The RB that had the 69 yard TD run had scholarship offers from Villanova and UConn. Several of their o-linemen were not rated highly. Their pro-style offense works because their OL play is miles beyond RU's, and their DC seems to have a clue about defending offenses with more than 2 WRs on the field.

We could be but a lot of things would have to change.

Better support from the University
New Coaching Staff
More donors (which will happen if the 1st two happens)
Better facilitates. (will happen with more donors)
Full Big Ten Payout (will happen in 2021 but we shouldn't wait for it or expect it alone to solve all of the above)

I wonder if deep down Iowa fans are slight perturbed with this season. They all wanted Ferentz gone and now he will be there for at least 3 more years. As posted above, they haven't been great the last 4 years.

Perturbed with an undefeated season and a potential playoff appearance?

Iowa was a non-factor in the B1G for the last 7 years.

We can be Iowa....just need a breakout year in about 5 more years. [banana]

Maybe Schiano should've stuck around.

I wouldn't want to be Iowa. I would rather be Michigan academically, athletically and with alumni support.

I would sign up for Iowa's 7 or 8 wins every year with a New Year's 6 bowl once every 5 or 6 in a heartbeat.

Is Ferentz overrated as a coach? Probably, but he has had enough seasons where things came together in the right way.

They almost were. Iowa beat Pitt by 3, Wisconsin by 4, Minnesota by 5, Indiana and Nebraska by 8, Illinois by 9. With a little less luck Iowa would have been its mediocre old self and at 6-6 Ferentz would again be holding on for dear life. Instead he's smelling a NC. Winning the close ones is a measure of their grit and that they have plenty of.

I remember last year when we eked out some close wins, there were some posters on this board who did nothing but denigrate the wins and acted as if we lost. Still it would be nice to have Iowa's record!

Many Iowa fans were calling for Ferentz to be fired along with the AD and their President over the last few seasons.

If Iowa was in the B1G East division what do you think their record would be? They're a good team, but got help by playing some of the weaker eastern foes.

Their's nothing wrong with eking out wins. The problem is with getting blown out by any team with a pulse for 3 straight seasons. Let's use Iowa for example, since we are talking about them. Last year they had 6 losses, 4 were by a total of 15 points. In 2013 when they lost 5 games, they lost by 3, 12, 10, 19 and 7. Even in 2012, their worst season in Ferentz' tenure, when they lost 8 games, they had 3 losses by 3 points, 1 by a single point and 1 by 7.

They will lose their next two and then go back to 6 or 7 wins next season. Last 4 seasons Iowa only finished with an 8-5 record once and we did it year 1. I. Have no problem being Iowa but you guys need to remember it's not 1989 anymore.

Iowa's 12-0 heading into the B1G Championship game and a chance at a playoff berth.
I congratulate them [cheers]

Denigrate close wins ?? That's crazy and unacceptable. Specifically what games are you referring to ?

Let's respond more simply to the OP. It's because we are in NJ and we are NJ and Rutgers. As Rutgers motto states...."Ever changing yet eternally the same". Often sad but true.

If we did that the past 4 years no one here would think in their wildest dreams that we'd go ahead and challenge for an undefeated reg season in 2015.

Except that the same coaching staff produced 4 Top 10 finishes, 2 BCS bowl appearances, and an Orange Bowl win in the 10 years prior to that stretch.

If he wins next week, I'd be willing to give him a lifetime contract, and I was his #1 hater prior to the season.

They are in the Big Ten West. If they were in the East at least 2 loses.

To whom, exactly? OSU has looked like garbage most of the year, and Michigan should have lost to both Minnesota and Indiana, and their QB got chased off our team cause he sucked so bad. MSU lost to the worst Nebraska team in like 50 years.

We'll find out next week how well we stack up against the East, and I expect win #13.

Might want to take a quick look at the returning roster and schedule for next year. Iowa has basically every key player back on both sides of the ball and has every tough game at home. We will be pre-season Top 5 in the country and the heavy favorites in the West again.

Iowas hasn't trailed at any point in the 2nd half this entire season, and not at all since being down 7-6 in the 1st quarter to Illinois in Week 6. You act like we were barely scraping by in those games. Outside of Wisc, we had comfortable leads for most of the other games, including double digits for most of the 2nd half in all of them except for Pitt.

Indiana, Nebraska, Minnesota all had late garbage scores to make those games look far more competitive than they actually were. At no point in any of those games did the opponent have the ball in the 2nd half with even a chance to tie the score.

Lost an OT game at OSU with our back-up QB playing the whole way 6 years ago that cost us the conference title. Last year we were like 5 points away from winning the West and playing in Indy.

There is room for reincarnation for RU. Iowa's bowl game last year was pathetic. Ruddock was 1-5. Don't think they ran 100 yards against a mediocre Tennesee team. But then the calendar changes.
3* guys turn out to be 5* players, luck changes, turnovers happen more frequently, the schedule becomes more friendly, the coach has an epiphany, and of course just the beauty of the game of college football intercedes on what might otherwise gloomy season. Hell, I'll take your lower level season tickets for next year. Go RU. Beat Terps!

I'm not so sure that the best teams in the East are any better than Iowa is.
