Why do posters keep saying that Schiano wouldn't want to work for Hermann?

truth be told--our former president nearly kissed Schiano's ring--was at certain steak house in New Brunswick where building contractors were meeting both-I was amazed, Schiano ran the show and the deference to him was stunning

Maybe because Schiano knew what he was doing...

No that is not accurate. Flood was hired as head coach before anyone left the program for Schiano or others schools. Maybe that should have been a sign to all of us that no one wanted to work with Flood.
IIRC it was more of an indictment of Schiano and his reputation of being a micro manager. He couldn't get any NFL guys to work for him so he was forced to take Rutgers guys. Do you really think he wanted to have an NFL staff made up of college guys with no NFL experience

No it wasnt. That's complete nonsense and you of all people know it. His first hire was the strength and conditioning coach. He was only blocked by 2 teams that just hired his former coaches. He went with coaches that were a part of his agent's group

You really trying to convince people that Schiano thought a bunch of guys that couldn't win the Big East were solid selections for the NFL?

No its a fact that coaches that worked for Schiano had no desire to work with Flood. And we had this conversation in 2013 and you agreed

How is it fact WB?...because you say so?...please cite references...thank you.

I have the same recollection as VKJ...that GS couldn't fill his staff with NFL guys...the reason to which I have no prior knowledge...I don't know if the NFL guys hated him...it would be pure conjecture on my part if I thought that.

iirc Schiano was a late hire by Tampa Bay and an unknown thus had difficulty filling his staff with NFL caliber people. Also previously Tampa Bay (before GS got there) had blocked other NFL teams from talking to the Tampa Bay staff for possible hires so out off revenge when Greg asked around a lot off the NFL teams were blocking him from talking to their staffs as well. That was why he was forced to grab the guys from RU. Those were the only guys he knew and were willing to come work for him at that time. It was a function of politics as well as time crunch. Schiano also offered Flood a spot as well but he turned it down to remain as HC at RU.

I hold no ill toward Greg for a) leaving for the NFL b) taking the coaches

He had no choice in either matter.

But Flood was named HC before Greg took the coaches. I think Greg took Butler and maybe one other early but the rest of them left after Greg couldn't get to talk to NFL guys. And those coaches took the NFL gig, well, because it is the NFL. Not because they didn't want to work for Flood.

As I understand it this is accurate, although I have also heard that Schiano advised TP not to hire Flood as a HC. Now that is hearsay, but I've heard it from multiple people.

As far as I can remember, the idea was initiated by the SL, where it was stated that Schiano wouldn't work for Herman, and I believe it was the opinion of everyone's favorite columnist.

Also, Barchi may be retiring soon and Herman has been unfairly portrayed as somewhat of a disaster, hence all the leaks of the admin not trusting Herman to make the hiring decision. Coaches prefer to attach their future to an AD who they think will be there a very long time, and it remains to be seen whether that will be the case for Herman.

Personally, I like the job that Julie is doing, but concede she has lots of critics, especially those that loved Pernetti, who seem most vocal.

I'm with you Al in terms of liking the job JH is doing. Julie had a lot on her plate to have our athletic department get to a place where it was respectable across all 24 programs. Clearly there were priorities due to profile, budgets, etc. This is her first full time AD job in an environment that is under a media microscope so missteps were bound to happen and get way blown out of whack relative to places like Kentucky or North Carolina, where it is very easy to hide and let things die away. The most amazing thing she is doing is getting the department in the black as fast as she can. It may not be fast for many, but she is also dealing with a support base that is very limited in terms of high net worth donors.

Based on what I heard last night, I expect Barchi to be here in 2020.

The "Barchi is leaving soon" rumor has become accepted fact by most on this board but nothing really exists to substantiate it other than some random hearsay and theories. I've never seen a definitive statement by anyone to prove otherwise. I certainly haven't read every post so I could have missed something but it seems like a rumor/speculation that has snowballed into fact.

Agree. From everything that I have heard, Barchi will be here for a while.

????? Do tell.

At the state of the university event yesterday, Barchi and others made comments that seemed to indicate that Barchi would be working on certain projects into 2020.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it. But, as an analogy, if you say "I'm going to paint my house in 5 years" that doesn't sound like you have plans to move in 3 years. Whereas, if you are planning to move in 3 years, you might say, "this house will need to be painted in 5 years."

Not completely true and there might be even more with NFL experience on his first staff.
The ones from Rutgers he brought with him were people he trusted to get the job done and who liked working under him.

Schiano’s DC Bill Sheridan Giants DC in 2009 . Started with the Giants as LB coach in 2005
TB’s OC Mike Sullivan Giants QB coach in 2011 IN THE nfl since 2002 as a coach
Tampa’s STC Bob Ligashesky in the NFLas an assistant since 2004 and previously STC for the Jaguars, Rams and Steelers
