I know I am getting way ahead of myself but hear me out

Gio fits exactly what Mehringer wants to do. Clearly, he has better accuracy than anyone currently on the staff and his mobility is exactly what we need to run this offense. He can stretch the field, which ends the days of 8 in the box, and the playbook can be opened significantly with Gio in there (remember, he was a WR in HS for his first 3 years since he was backing up a 4* QB)

but here is the the real value of Gio (barring injury - cuz he is definitely prone to injury given his skills)

a) the 2017 recruiting class wants to see progress. If we stuck with the same old, there is good reason for recruits to be disappointed and lose faith in Ash. By putting in Gio, it shows that Ash will not settle for under-performance at any position, and he is not afraid to make changes and take chances....

which means ..............................

b) if you are an incoming freshman and you have the talent, YOU WILL PLAY

c) Despite what some people have written, GIO could be the future of this Rutgers offense. This kid is playing as good as any Rutgers QB in the past 8 years sans Nova in year 4, and this is with limited practice reps for the past 2 years - so only 1 week of first team reps. If Gio continues to progress, this could give us the luxury of red-shirting Lewis if needed (clearly with CL we didnt have that luxury) and gives us momentum into 2017.

d) If Gio stays healthy - we WILL win at least one or 2 more games on our schedule. Again, recruits dont care about our final record at this point, they just want to see progress in both the team and the maturation of Ash as the head coach

In sum.....Gio gives us progress --> progress gives us our 2017 recruiting class --> 2017 gives us a new class of playmakers and a markedly better product on the field --> which bring us an even better 2018 recruiting class

Of course this is getting way ahead of myself but its ok to have hope, but Gio's progress each and every week gives us a reason to watch (as gutsy as CL was, it was just getting painful to watch someone who already hit their ceiling) - i have now heard no less than 3 writers and a TV announcer say that GIO may not even be in the QB competition next year - I call BS - and if Gio is our QB this time next year, that means things are looking VERY GOOD ON THE BANKS

with Gio we would have beaten Iowa....Penn St and Maryland are both winnable games - hopefully our defense plays better than it did this first half, and even Michigan St is having a very down year. Indiana is arguably the toughest game left on our schedule, and most people had that penciled in as a win at the beginning of the year

@RUSK97 - sure we wont win another game

we are 2 turnovers and another dumbass special teams play away from controlling this game

Will you stop discounting TOs. If we keep on commiting them chances are good we'll lose. If Minny didn't do sh@t off the field, they wouldn't suspend a bunch of players and their D would be better. But it is what it is.

Gio's out there balling, while playing hurt. This guy's the real deal. Reminds me of Brett Farve.

#1 recruit in the state is enrolling early

After the bye week we play the 4 weakest conference teams on our schedule..that means 2 more weeks of first team real for Gio

Could we get a de commit or 2..sure

But this team will close the season strong and recruits will see that with no talent, Ash was able to coach the team up and the calvary is on the way

And please...can we recruit a kicker...not being able to consistently get touchbacks can lead to big plays and/ or injuries

Also, appreciate that Bonogura is 88% on his short range kicks but it really does change things when your kicker is maxed out at 40 yards

Imagine a guy has a nice date with a new girl. After that he sits down and writes out a bunch of prognostications for the future. How the next dates will go. When marriage can take place. Where the kids can go to school etc. That's what all these (and there are always a lot of them) long leaps into the future look like. Gio might be the new Paul James if he's not hardy. Not that I worry about it. Its just too soon to get all wrapped up in possibilities

We are fans..we are supposed to hope

I can unequivocally say that I would take Gio over any QB in the past 8 yrs except for good Gary Nova. Credit the staff til waiting after Ohio St and Michigan to make the change

This is why we can't have nice things.

I don't know if trying to attack but there's many reasons the comparison was drawn.

- Both roughly same height (6' 2")
- Both were fairly mobile
- Both turnover prone
- Both have similar arm motions
- Both like making throws on the run
- Both play injured
- Both bring a lot of energy to position
- Farve was also an unheralded recruit, being recruited to actually play DB

Obviously it's absurd to compare a 1 start QB to Brett Farve, but in the fun of being a fan... you try and match up with what NFL player is potentially similar.

If you had to pick an NFL QB (current or former), who would be your pick?

I actually see Tim Tebow in Gio. He's similar size albeit a little smaller. Not a rocket arm but he can make the throws in a spread offense. Also he runs like an absolute beast. Gio = Tebow.
