"Joe will be the starter this week as the punter," Flood said of Roth, who is averaging 39.7 yards per punt this season. "It was his poorest performance of the season and I didn't think it was going to get better, so I figured let's give Michael an opportunity to get some in-game experience. He's somebody with a lot of eligibility left and is our backup punter right now. Joe didn't hit it very well and those specialists are a little bit like golfers or hitters in baseball — when their swing is a little bit off, it's probably not going to get righted that day. So I figured at that point the best thing we could do for the football team is give Michael some in-game experience so in case he's called upon it won't be his first time. But going into this week, Joe will be our starter. Overall, Joe has a good season for us. He just didn't have a very good day."

He cannot see when the QB is not throwing it well or playing well but it is evident with the punter. I guess it's more valuable to have a more prepared back up punter than a QB.

I called him Barney Fife in another thread. Recalculating...make that GOOBER.

This is actually a very valid point. Good job OP. We've seen RB's sit when they fumble and now Punter's sit when their off. I have no idea what is so different with the QB spot. He's actually contradicting himself with these statements. Like I've said before I'm seeing and hearing things from him that I've never seen done before by a football coach . It's as if he's making it up as he goes along and that's very disconcerting.

That is how I understood his comments as well. He contradicts himself quite regularly when it comes to this QB competition. He thinks it is more valuable to have a capable back up as punter vs QB. A punter that was third on the depth chart in the pre season but he won't try to get option 1A QB in the preseason that same game time experience because it would challenge the learning process of the starter. A golfer, baseball hitter, punter when they don't have it they don't have it but a QB can miraculously gain composure and settle down when they don't have it. That sums up Flood's ability in one statement.

It's simple-he's disingenuous.

Coaching ability-not so much skill there
Straight shooter---"I'll meet you in out of the way location with no RU garb on" killed that notion

RUTGERS man---Although not required for a coach:
-would Iona man Flood been admitted academically as an RU student?
-Would fball player Flood have been able to play at RU?
-I'll answer the last one--Flood's coaching pedigree does not qualify him to be a B1G head coach at RU and he has not dispelled that notion in 4 years

Enough with this nonsense.
