"Joe will be the starter this week as the punter," Flood said of Roth, who is averaging 39.7 yards per punt this season. "It was his poorest performance of the season and I didn't think it was going to get better, so I figured let's give Michael an opportunity to get some in-game experience. He's somebody with a lot of eligibility left and is our backup punter right now. Joe didn't hit it very well and those specialists are a little bit like golfers or hitters in baseball — when their swing is a little bit off, it's probably not going to get righted that day. So I figured at that point the best thing we could do for the football team is give Michael some in-game experience so in case he's called upon it won't be his first time. But going into this week, Joe will be our starter. Overall, Joe has a good season for us. He just didn't have a very good day."
He cannot see when the QB is not throwing it well or playing well but it is evident with the punter. I guess it's more valuable to have a more prepared back up punter than a QB.
