Will any of the current assistants survive the house cleaning?

I would think that with the house cleaning just about all the current assistants will be gone since all contributed to the current football culture. The exceptions I can see are:
- Vallone (Defensive assistant)
- Fraser (if Schiano is hired)
- Wilson (may get a year with the new coach as a sign of thanks for being loyal through this situation and keeping the recruiting class together but that is doubtful)

I'd only keep campanile, the guy has been promoted every year he has been here and is a helluva football mind.
If schiano is hired, he'd keep coach camp because that's who actually originally hired him.

I don't think it is very common for guys to be retained after the HC is fired. But if Schiano comes in, that's a bit of an unusual situation so a few may be retained.

Panagos would be another guy who could be kept.

A lot depends on the new HC and his connections.

He's done an outstanding job when you consider who the head coach was since he was hired.

Trust me, he's built a lot of important relationships with many underclass high school prospects & coaches here in NJ.
Barthel is the reason why the BIG GUYS have come here to look at RU and check things out. He's not the closer-the head coach is the closer. His job is to convince prospects to come check us out and see what's up. Players whom normally would not chekc us out have stopped by for visits. He's a must stay. MUST.

Yes, you are correct, EJ needs to be retained.

Panagos has done well in recruiting but has he actually coached his group well?
I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt using undersized DL from previous schemes and ton of injuries. Turay, Hamilton, Joseph-all with significant missed time due to injury. And putting DE's in to the DL holes is a tough think for the kids to do. Lambert and JPO are not the right size for DT. I give Panagos credit for coaxing what he could out of these kids playing out of position due to injury. Wilkins is going to be a monster as will Ford. Need some bigger recruits size wise in there. I hope Roman pans out as a Run Stuffer/Space Eater in there.

Paganos is a hit across the board, at least from a recruiting perspective. The guy is a machine and the kids and parents love him. If his position coaching falls a bit short, it's only to the extent that he could benefit from a stronger head coach. He's the only guy on my current "must keep" list.

I think a lot of this depends on just how much hands-on Flood had on the decision making. Laviano is a case in point. Was this decision all Flood or a consensus of the coaches? Many here feel Flood was a very stubborn person. If true, many of the remaining coaches may have been frustrated by this.
However, our overall game performances didn't show all that much and if this is the best they can do, not good enough.

Yes, RU has had an undersized DL since Flood had been the HC.
Good point.

I just can't believe that Fridge agreed with Flood with Laviano.

Sitting a few rows directly behind the defensive bench, the players' body language was a great indicator of their responsiveness to Rossi.....

I'm telling you right now McDaniels is going to be a helluva OC the bloodlines are there

Well, he didn't show it this year. We couldn't score at all against teams with a defensive pulse.

Against FBS teams with Scoring Defense ranks above 75th nationally, we scored 12.3 points per game (cracking 20 just once, against 22nd ranked MSU at home). Against those with ranks worse than 75th, we scored 37.6 points per game.

Neither could Ralph.

I mentioned in an earlier thread that I always wondered if Schiano came back if he would keep Ben McD as OC due to the connections to BB in New England. It might be good to do that for a few reasons, in particular it would keep a consistency with our offensive philosophy (allowing Lavs, and maybe more importantly Rettig to keep within the system... do we really want another different OC in how many god years) and could also allow us to keep Russo on board (since he specifically mentioned he liked the Pats offense system).

Why? He has done nothing.
He's got most of the big guys to visit that's all he can do. Plus a new coach is going to keep the recruiting coordinator on staff especially if he's not familiar with the area. This way he has built in ties to the area and can start recruiting from the start. Would be stupid of any coach to let him go even if it's Schiano. A lot has changed since he was last here.

Neither could Ralph.

True, though Ralph did do slightly better. 15.9 pts per game against the top 75, and 39.6 against those worse than 75.

Also consider that Janarion Grant had no KO/Punt return TDs last year, but had 4 this year (though only 1 was against a team with a top 75 defense). There were (amazingly) no defensive TDs in either year (great job, Rossi). That would put McDaniels' offensive scoring numbers at 11.1 ppg for teams better than 75th and 33.4 for teams above that number.

Granted, Friedgen had Nova and McDaniels had Laviano, which has to be considered. But offensively, we were scoring 5.8 fewer points per game against all programs this year.

I think so as well. When we opened the offense up against admittedly a bad Maryland team we looked like a juggernaut on offense. We were all very surprised in the stands wondering where this innovative offense was hiding all year. We got up big, then clamped it down not going for the jugular. Offense sets went from spreading it out to bunching everyone in. I really wonder how hands off Flood actually was here. Because to me it looked like McDaniels was given free reign to open it up in the 1st half. But then was told to keep it safe once we had the lead. This would jive with Flood's mo of risk adverse decisions.

I'd like to think Flood was shackling McDaniels, but I just can't forget all the 3rd and X downs we had where the play call was to throw the ball X-4 yards and pray for YAC.

I was a little shocked in the first half against Maryland when we threw a 3rd down ball past the sticks.

We look like a great offense when we play teams that don't know their ass from their elbow on defense. Unfortunately, the better teams we played this year had DCs that ran circles around McDaniels.

I really hope for McDaniels sake (either here or elsewhere) that Flood undercut his success.

Oh I guess having a brother whose an OC with a super bowl ring and 10-1 this must he a detriment to his success. Sorry wasn't thinking. I'll consult you for proper wording next time

re McDaniels.

Asked a different way, if he didn't have that last name would anyone want him back?

question from another perspective - are there any members of this staff that might get a job offer before the new coach is hired? No? .... humm - what does that say?
