Someone remind me please.
Were there some posters here adamant that there is no way he can play and defend at the 4?

Be quiet, what's that made up word you used, "pudner".I wanted to see more Wolf at the 4 for better rebounding and hedging.
What is the purpose of your post?
If YOU like him at the forward position say it and be pleased about it… what in the world does asking who are the people that didn’t do for you?
Offensively, he’s not a shooting threat which means defenses can ignore him when he’s away from the basket
The made up word “ pudner” that has befuddled you, is a word my ex teammate Willie Stargell (who was from Oklahoma)Be quiet, what's that made up word you used, "pudner".
Don't tell people Gavin only played 5+ minutes in the 2nd half because of defense. Some blind fans will argue with you. Lol1. We only have 2 centers
2. It is 2023
Woolfolk is a stopgap. I am very impressed with how he changed his body and who he can now defend.
Woolfolks minutes are coming at the expense of Gavins bad defense and rebounding
Its a major problem. His defensive rebounding suffers too because playing team D is so unnatural for him.Don't tell people Gavin only played 5+ minutes in the 2nd half because of defense. Some blind fans will argue with you. Lol
He can 100% defend the 4. I don't remember anyone claiming that. He is an offensive liability at the 4 because he can't shoot beyond 8-10 feet. He is playing because they were getting dominated on the boards and Pike decided to go big. It has worked out so far but it will be difficult playing better competition if the defense doesn't need to defend him on the perimeter. Other teams will sag into the lane and stick tighter on our shooters. Not a good combination.Someone remind me please.

Credit Pike for sitting GG as much as he does. Has to be a motivator for Gavin to work harder on D and rebounding. Its a major problem. His defensive rebounding suffers too because playing team D is so unnatural for him.
He is trying so hard but he doesnt have it yet
I didnt realize his Dad played. I am trying to figure why Gavin doesnt know how to play D off the ballCredit Pike for sitting GG as much as he does. Has to be a motivator for Gavin to work harder on D and rebounding.
I’ll bet if you asked Gavin’s dad, who played with Pike, he’d say this is just what my kid needs. He’s gonna be that much better having to work hard for PT.
Which would be fine if there was lot of offensive firepower at the other spots. Caleb was a defender at 1-3 and sometimes at 4.Wolf is not going to score many FGs. His role is to defend and rebound and aim to become a Caleb like defender but at the 4. And he must, must, work on his FT shooting.
Gavin’s dad was 2-time all state center in Connecticut, then played for Hartford before playing professionally overseas. I should have said he played against (not with) Pike at UConn.I didnt realize his Dad played. I am trying to figure why Gavin doesnt know how to play D off the ball
I expected him as a freshman to struggle defensively, but I never would have imagined he didnt know how to see the ball and his defender. 1st practice of the season coaching rec basketball we worked on ball you man triangle faving players actyally point to both the ball and their man as the ball moved around.
Dunk itQuite honestly, outside of blocking shots and maybe rebounding, I'd be interested in hearing anything that Cliff does better than Woolf at the 5.
Bill Russell tooQuite honestly, outside of blocking shots and maybe rebounding, I'd be interested in hearing anything that Cliff does better than Woolf at the 5.
This. Wolf can defend the 4. The problem is on offense. In today's bball, your 4 ideally can shoot the 3. Yeboah Ron Mag/Hyatt have been our 4's these last years. Wolf has yet to show he can knock down a mid range shot let alone space the floor to knock down the 3 ball. That makes him a 5 in the modern game.He can 100% defend the 4. None Woolf has a much better inside game and moves than Cliff and he definitely has a much higher basketball iQQuite honestly, outside of blocking shots and maybe rebounding, I'd be interested in hearing anything that Cliff does better than Woolf at the 5.
Yeah like the two most important things for a center, if we ignore those, then what does he do?Quite honestly, outside of blocking shots and maybe rebounding, I'd be interested in hearing anything that Dikembe Mutombo does better than Bill Cartwright at the 5.
Except for passing what does John Stockton do better than Derek HarperYeah like the two most important things for a center, if we ignore those, then what does he do?
Except he has to assert himself and take the ball to the hole and score. If Cliff and him are playing together they both have to take it to their man. Wolf at the4 should be able to overpower his man.He can 100% defend the 4. I don't remember anyone claiming that. He is an offensive liability at the 4 because he can't shoot beyond 8-10 feet. This is a back up plan untik mag is backHe can defend at the 4 but anywhere more than ten feet from the hoop he does not need to be defended. Needs to develop a shot.

This is extremely true , otherwise we are giving up a lot elsewhereIf Cliff and Wolf are on the court together, we need to be dominating the boards
If Cliff and Wolf are on the court together, we need to be dominating the boards
Not true. A few inch height advantage at the 4 does not automatically translate into domination in rebounding. If so, Indiana which starts 7'0, 6'9, 6'8 must dominate everybody. This is extremely true , otherwise we are giving up a lot elsewhere
AND he needs someone helping him as a special project after hours or something if not happening already. I don't think he's far off on form but man...he's going to get fouled a lot down there and we need these points.Wolf is not going to score many FGs. It’s not crazy and it’s also not ideal.I never commented on Wolf playing the 4 other than mentioning that Pike said he would. Board experts said that was crazy talk and that Pike was crazy if he did it, lol.
Not to mention out of the 1000’s of posters who participate here. It’s not crazy and it’s also not ideal.
