Keep OSU and Michigan respectable

Beat Wisconsin or Nebraska

Beat Army and Maryland

Win a crappy bowl game

Welcome back Flood

And if Flood cannot make that happen?

(yes I would be happy with that, especially at this point.. but if you are going to ask that than the you need to ask the other questions.. the one I posed above.. will you ne UNHAPPY if your scenario does not happen? How unhappy? Flood gone unhappy?)

Problem with the question is that Flood will be back, regardless. That decision was made when giving him the three game suspension.

If there was any real motivation to fire him, it would have happened then.

Why would we not be happy with making and winning a bowl this year?! How many of these "would you rather suck, or be good with Flood" threads are you people gonna make? These scenarios don't even apply anyway, Flood is coming back even if we don't make a bowl this year.

With everything that has gone on this year, sure. And "crappy bowl game" is all relative. The B1G bowl line up is ridiculously awesome. I would like to see where that lands us.

Recruiting is good and we return a ton next year. Going to yet another bowl game (10 in 11 years with he one year being the EL tragedy) would still be an accomplishment.

In that scenario, I would like to see where that lands us in B1G rankings.

Who wouldnt be happy with that. It would be a clear improvement on last year, despite having alot of new pieces (OL, QB), a secondary decimated by injury and arrest, and the whole coach getting suspended thing.

If that ends up happening, the class we have sticks together, if not get better.

The question is the im betweens. I think at 7 wins everyone would want him back, an at 4 everyone would want him gone. What about 5 or 6 wins. What if some are blowouts (like frankly, I expect tomorrow night to be - some thing like 52-20).

Caliknight - for various reasons, if we dont get to 8 regular season wins, you can pretty much pencil us in for Fort Worth. Its been that way all season.

6-6 lands us in Detroit or Dallas (or a non-B1G bowl against a MAC-type opponent).

I would be satisfied with 7-6 if the remaining losses are close games. That would show progress when you consider what happened at the start of the season where we were breaking in a half-new secondary right before the games started.

To borrow a phrase from the Mets' owner, I just want us to play meaningful plays in the 4th quarter this Saturday.

We went to Detroit last year for Quick Lane bowl. I say 6-6 gets us Dallas Bowl. 7-5 probably Dallas too but if we have "impressive wins" then may push to a higher bowl.

If you replace Maryland with Indiana and assume the rest of the teams from last year go bowling, who goes to the Pinstripe...I would not be surprised if that got us there, IU to Dallas and Illinois to Detroit and TTFP to San Fran.

At this point army looks like a sure win and Maryland a toss up. After that the chance of victories seems to really drop off.

Losing 5 defensive backs and Hamilton yes I would. But I would also like Rettig to play some also.

Flood will be back even if this becomes a 3-9 season with multiple blowouts. Barchi does not care as long as the deficit decreases. Only thing that would lead to Flood being fired is another scandal.

The reality is that JT Barrett is bigger and faster and stronger than any defensive player we have. We may have a way to go to compete with #1, but take any bowl game offered given we have 19 of the 22 starters back next year.

It also depends on who's out there. With all the coaching vacancies out there, can we get a good one? It's debatable. I'd make a run at Schiano and if we can't get him, sit pat with Flood for another year. hopefully next year there'll be a better pool of coaches to pick from.

Having all those players back is meaningless if they are not good enough to compete and beat the teams ahead of us in the standings. Beating Maryland and Indiana is not enough.

We were lucky to get points today and will be lucky to get points in either of our next 2 games which, btw, come against much better defenses than OSU's (Wiscy was #7 and Michigan #2 coming into this weekend...OSU #19).

Maryland put up 30 on a PSU D that we didn't sniff the end zone against (yes, no LC, but we weren't scoring 30 regardless...) and rushed for 250!!! We managed 43 yards rushing that night!!!! Oh they also put up 400 yards and 28 pints against the team that mauled us last night and did so on the road. I'm not counting that as a "W" either. Sorry. No freakin' way.

Nebraska? Damn...talk about some bad luck...they've lost by 5, 3, 1, 2, and 2, with, IIRC, 2 on hail mary's and 2 more on the final drive? I hope they whoop Purdue and MSU the next 2 Saturdays. You think they keep being so unlucky this year?? Doubtful.

prefer to lose out if it means Elmer...i mean Flood is gone. Based on what a majority of people see at QB, he doesn't deserve to wash jock straps, much less coach a P5 team.

Thanks to Flood's awesome recruiting that should change in a decade or so.

Flood should be fired if we don't make a bowl. Losing seasons 50% of the time is unacceptable.

I agree but the bar is set so low for Flood that he will probably be back even if we don't make a bowl.

As long as Barchi is president, we will have no better than Flood as our coach. He will not spend the money for anyone better.

I still don't know why the players are happy with Flood.

I know some of them thought Schiano was too much of a taskmaster and too controlling. But look what has happened sense. Is "Club Ice" really that much fun? Is having easier preseason camps doing any of them any good? Is committing to a single QB no matter what getting the results they all hope for? Is Flood getting them ready for the NFL?

We need someone who can instantly make the offense or defense a whole lot better. I don't want an executive coach or figurehead (like PSU's Franklin).. I want a guy who lives and breathes offense or defense. And then we can find a coordinator for the other side of the ball. Flood was never the answer.. it should be obvious by now.

Maybe we need to talk to the Big Ten to try to get that share payout early based on how successful the ratings have been. We need to renegotiate.

This is always the counter arguemen...make fun of, bash, or simply dismiss the people that are tired of Flood and the mess he has created.
Given the current financial situation, what the hell do you suggest?

At the end of the day all this football stuff is entertainment ...... Progress will be made but money talks and we are a baby learning its first words in a B1G world.

Same stale arguement, regardless of the financial situation we can do better than Flood
Well, do you have some takers for what we'll pay after we buy out Flood? It's easy to sit on the sidelines and say it sucks and then not offer a viable alternative, or in your case any alternative.
