Several student-athletes from Rutgers wrestling will compete at the 2022 Team USA U20 and U23 World Team Trials on Saturday and Sunday in Geneva, Ohio. The champion in each U20 (JR) and U23 weight class qualifies to represent the United States at the 2022 UWW World Championships.

McDermott still in the consolations. Poz went 1 and 2 and did not place in the under 20 division and Soldano also did not place in the under 20 division. Messina, White, and Epperly didn’t place in the under 23 division. Alvarez and Shaver looking good and in the quarterfinals. Sunday is a big day for these two guys. Surprised that Poz and Soldano didn’t do better.

Freestyle and folk style are so different. It’s crazy how the same sport can create such a disparity in the two styles.

Poz hasn’t wrestled well in a very long time at this point so it’s not very surprising. Not sure what’s what happened/happening but hopefully he can get on track.

A little surprised with Soldano but I didn’t see of the matches so can’t really comment.

Alvarez lost 13-2. But has pretty easy path to the 3rd/4th place match. Shawver has been really impressive. Could win it all. Anyone have thoughts on the losses by White, Poz, and Soldano?

In non-Rutgers news, tOSU has 2 U20 world team members and their top 2 commits wrestled each other at 61 kg:

It'll be interesting to see where Mendez and Bouzakis wrestle in tOSU lineup and when or if 1 redshirts. Both are vying for 133 and I give Bouzakis the slight edge. Mendez is taller and looks like he could put on weight and muscle to go 141. Nice problem for them to have...

Gotta love the ol criteria deciding a match... At least have a 1 min SV first.

Alvarez lost in the consolations and will not place. Shawver will be our only placer and will finish between 3rd and 6th. He looked good. Hopefully the experience will help the guys that lost all improve and be ready for the season.
