August 25, 2016

We picked a beautiful day to spend with our supporters at Forsgate County Club for our 9th annual Rutgers Wrestling Golf Outing. The weather was perfect and the event went off without a hitch. Rutgers wrestling would like to sincerely thank all the sponsors, golfers and SKWC committee member volunteers that made Monday's outing such a huge success. Last September our SKWC committee members had the idea to upgrade this fundraising event and make it bigger and better. They fully delivered on their intention and created the best outing in the history of our program. We chose a premiere golf course, nearly doubled our participation and raised enough revenue to support two full time resident athletes (Anthony Perrotii & Taylor Walsh). These residents work directly with our college students on a daily basis to enhance the quality of our training environment. Having such a successful event allows us to use our other fundraising effort, the pin pool, to fund a third resident (Tyler Graff) as well as team training trips and world level competitions for our current students and our resident athletes. Days like Monday are very special to our staff because we understand the sacrifices you all make to attend an outing of this nature especially in the summer months. With the attendance and support that we receive, our pledge to our faithful fans is there will be no stopping us in our mission to bring home a NCAA team trophy to The State University of NJ. With a relentless effort we continue to work tirelessly for our athletic department, university and all who support Rutgers. Of course there is one more thing you all can help us with as we move into the new school year.

The Battle at the Birthplace presented by Autoland is approaching quickly and we need to continue to push group tickets to high school teams, clubs, youth programs and basically anyone who wants to be part of history. To beat the record set by Iowa last year we NEED your help to spread the word about this dual. The date of the match is November 19th at 11AM prior to our home football game vs Penn State. We have teamed up with Mark Montenero from the world famous Autoland on route 22 in Springfield,NJ and together we are going to put on a fantastic event in the football stadium this Fall. Please follow the link Autoland for a recent email sent out by Mark and his excellent team. Nothing like this has ever been done on the east coast and we are ecstatic to showcase our program versus a great rival in Princeton. Anything you can do to get the word out about this match and our wrestling program in general is very much appreciated. Currently we have just under 9,000 tickets sold for Battle at the Birthplace presented by Autoland so as school begins in New Jersey we anticipate a spike in ticket sales. Without your influence and help we will not achieve our goal of a record setting event. Please continue to build this dual meet and spread the word to wrestling fans, kids and coaches around the entire tri-state area. The easiest way to get tickets for the BATB is to contact Matt Pagano in our athletic ticket office. (mpagano@scarletknights.com or 732.907.1571)

Taylor Walsh, AA from Indiana via Camden Catholic, is/was a flat out pinning machine at Indiana! Nice addition!

From the 2014 season:

"Walsh has 23 pins in his 26 wins through just the halfway point of the 2013-14 NCAA season, including a stretch of 15 straight pins heading into the Midlands finals against defending 157-pound National Champion Derek St. John of Iowa. Walsh was unable to pull the upset over St. John, but has built the necessary confidence to compete for the National Championship this March."

Bringing the Somerville kids with former RU great Rodney Van Ness (over 100 wins) and Andrew Flanagan, former Bound Brook State Champ and Harvard great.
