Because year 1 was not his recruits and just picking up the pieces.

Last year, made some progress and got some good kids in the pipeline

This year they get some experience and grow. That said, we did blow 2 games for sure.

Next year is fair game. Continue to build with the young guys and get some more portal talent.

Again, you may disagree, but that’s the reality

His first class are just seeing the field now and a few played last year. His second class are mostly redshirting with a few playing. Portal has helped plug some holes in the trenches.

How many times in the last 40 years have we debated on how many years a new coach is allowed before he must face the fire? Over and over it's " well, this is only his first year" or "it's only his second year", or "well, X percent of the team are his players". We never get to debate as to how well a new coach did without his own players.

Any new coach needs time . If you were here with the rest of us the first time he was here then you understand

Would this be in place if this was Leopold, Keeler, or anyone else not named Schiano? Everyone else wouldn’t get this benefit of the doubt. Hell, that goof Ash was halfway out the door by now lol.

There are several examples that prove this isn't true and yes, I disagree.
The focus..ie penalties have gotten worse. The Fg kicker experiments is totally on him. .
Which/how many of his portal imports other than Ryan have planned out?
Johnny Langan better this year after all the accolades given last year?
Offense, defence, special teams, turnovers, and penalties. 5 key areas. Other than defense how we doing in the other four?

How did that logic work for Manny Diaz at Miami?

The TP has eliminated the excuse for all these coaches, not just Schiano, that the first year is a pass since they are not his kids.

The OL wasn't exactly the 1994 Dallas Cowboys line but JD DiRenzo, Willie Tyler and Curtis Dunlap were big reasons why the games against Iowa, Nebraska and Michigan State were close. They also helped the team win against Indy and BC where the running game just took over in the 2nd half for the latter. I really think the last game would have been a lot closer if Samuel Brown was healthy.

I know it’s the NFL and a much different landscape but how come Brian Dabol can go the Giants who have drafted like complete dogshit over the past 10+ years and start 7-3 with hardly anything better than a pedestrian roster by NFL standards?

Coaching matters. Especially at the college level. Schiano might be a solid recruiter, program builder and developer of talent but coaching on Saturday afternoons has never been his strong suit.

I will give you that., Ryan, and Crushack. Now give me the other playmakers.. vedral, youngblood, Harris, Aiomo (sp), the kicker who can't make big kicks or come close to reaching the end zone.

Miami, like lots of other D1A programs, has a history that includes a number of elite recruiting classes, Top Ten rankings, top-level bowl games, and many kids moving on to the NFL...some as stars. Everyone knows it can be done there....because it has been done there.
No one has ever shown that it can be done here. Schiano, part one was the closest Rutgers has ever come to being a top football program. Perhaps it can't be done here. But I understand why many RU fans think he might be the one to do it here.

Nah it’s year 3.

It’s just our fan base is delusional and things the dumpster fire he took over should be winning 7-8 games by now.

Coaching matters, but so does a healthy Barkley.
A healthy Barkley playing for his career. I’ll give you that. But if the Giants were holding a fire sale and no one was off limits, NFL teams looking to win this year are coming for only 3 guys.

Barkley
The left tackle
The DT Lawrence

They have no one else anyone wants.

We have Sam Brown, A Lewis and maybe the punter.

I predicted 2-4 wins for this season. And looks like I was right, although we can still go one win better.

I’ve been predicting 3-6 for next year, despite the meat-grinder schedule, and have seen nothing to alter my prediction. If it’s 3, GSs seat will be luke warm. If it’s 6, then I think he’ll be here for all 8 years of his contract.

But it’s the future and anything can happen. Will be fun too see what happens.

A healthy Saquon mixed with the NFC essentially being the big ten west this year also helps…

So true.
BTW, the Giants actually seem to have had a decent draft in 2022.
Rookies who haven’t even played a full season. You can hate the NYG comparison all you want but the bottom line is we have enough to be able to have won at least one of the following:

Iowa
Nebraska
@MSU
@Maryland

GS can still prove me wrong and beat Maryland and I’ll eat my words. But 0 for the other 3 is weak. How about exceeding expectations just once? In 2003 he beat Syracuse in the finale and gave us something to hang out hats on. Go upset Maryland and I’ll say we’re on schedule.

The Eagles and Cowboys have waaaaaay more talent than the Giants. And that stands to reason since Dallas beat them and the giants still have 5 division games remaining. I don’t think they’ll finish any better than 1-5 in the division.

Still, the Giants won at Tennessee and beat Baltimore with a roster of dogshit.

MD played Ohio State pretty close compared to us. We can win, but it’s far from expected.

We will almost certainly not win if players turn the ball over a bunch of times. Coaches can beat that into the players 24/7. But coaches can’t play the game for the players.

Such an exaggerated take on most fans expectations for effect. I know the model. When the argument is close throw out some extreme accusations to make the other side look stupid and unreasonable.

Now go way out on a limb and predict 2024?😊
Will we have even a serviceable OL, likewise for DT’s, will we have legitimate back up running backs in case Brown gets dinged (assuming he’s not poached)
Will we have wide receivers, good special teams with less dumb turnovers and penalties
Will we even have a QB room?

Yeah this is clearly fun. Lol.
Nice strategy. Under project. Can't lose that way. You'll either be right or pleasantly surprised.
Btw.. there's more to the game than just the record. To many people how you play it matters.

If a coach who is so big on ball control can't after all this time can't get better execution on turnovers and penalties than he is either not effective in coaching or recruiting the right players. That's his job and why he's paid as much as he's paid.

Nearly 80% of the roster are Schiano recruits...
Right but 19 year old DL playing against 23 year old 4 star OL is a tough matchup. There’s no secret that our best players almost every year are the guys who have been playing 4-5 years. That’s just a fact. Skill players can develop faster and we have guys like Melton playing at a very high level but our best guys aside from him and a few others are the older guys.

Last year it was Pacheco, Turner and Bo Melton with our LB’s all playing well. The year before it was Dwumfour and Avery. Injuries also play a part as we lost Vedral this year and guys are playing hurt or missing time.

And what does this thread have to do with Ash as brought up above? I always said Ash was put in a bad position and Schiano was put in a worse position. Mainly because you lose out on a year or two of recruiting when you change coaches plus we had all of those arrests under Flood and again under Ash. It takes time to build quality depth when you factor all of those things in. Two years ago everyone was praising Schiano for flipping Melton and Powell, bringing in some transfers and getting guys like Turner to play really hard.

But make no mistake, Ash was a lame duck recruiting the 2019 class and we were lucky to get who we did that year and in 2 weeks in 2020 thanks to Nunz, Schiano and Fran Brown. Those would be our upperclassmen today, especially in the trenches.

Here are who is left from our older classes:

2018 - Izien, Young, Korzak all playing very well.

2019 - Young (injured), Toure (injured), Washington and Hansen.

Now go look at how many upperclassmen playing for Minnesota, Iowa, etc who are solid but not Top 10 programs. We need time just to catch up to them in this conference.
