Snow 1/3-1/4? And continued very cold...

No, hadn't seen that one, thanks - very slick site - easy to navigate, find things and graphically well-executed. I imagine it's especially useful for pilots and sailors given the wind maps at various levels in the atmosphere. Not sure how well they've done the snowfall maps for the various models, though, as their GFS snowfall map is a bit off what the 6Z GFS is showing out at 8-9 days (a decent snowstorm).

It's a great app for offshore sailing. The only thing it lacks is the ability to build a course plot based on a boat's polar diagram.

Flying, maybe not so much, since pilots aren't really concerned with anything outside a window of a few hours.

Was perusing a pilot's forum that my "windy" search brought me to and a few pilots were saying they do like to use it to check their routes and a couple said they've used it when having to reroute due to bad conditions at their destination, as it gives them very fast, high quality data for the column around their new destination.

I'd be skeptical, myself, if only because the initial data on windy.com isn't representative of "current conditions", but rather the conditions predicted by the 3 models for the current time based on previous run.

As a "high level, more-or-less", I could see it but there are better sources of aviation weather with regard to current conditions.

As much as the snow only lovers want to push snow fall amounts this cold is record breaking yet not sexy enough for them. Brutal and 2 more days to come. Yet a non story to the single minded.

I hope you're not referring to me...

Cat got your tongue? You wrongly criticized me for ignoring the cold in the previous thread and now you appear to be doing the same although you're being cagier this time by not saying who the "snow lovers" are. Just as in the last thread, I've made numerous posts or parts of posts about the coming cold and the cold that showed up, yet you still said I was "wrong to not to highlight the real issue (severe cold) we are all facing for the next week."

If I had made more posts about the cold, I'm sure you would have said I was hyping the cold. However, unlike a snowstorm, which is an exquisitely fragile thing that has pretty large uncertainties associated with it right up to and including the event, which rightly leads to far more changes and discussion, it's pretty damn easy to forecast the cold. My message on that has been unchanged for the past 16 days, since I first posted on the coming cold snap on 12/21, so there has been nothing "new" really to talk about with the cold, which is why I've only occasionally referred to it.

I didn't catch that - thought it was actual current state, but it looks like one can only select one of the 3 models and I don't see any current state tab. Seems like a miss for a site aimed so much at people who do things in/with the wind. They do at least have reported current winds/gusts for a ton of locations if one zooms in (and it's color coded which is nice).

Wasn't talking about you at all and no one person in particular. You have posted before and after the storm about the severe cold. Don't let your ego get hurt every time I post about weather. 99% of the time my issues are with the media but you always take it as a personal attack on you. Which is funny as you don't even see what is on the Philly news.
It maybe easier to forecast temps. However there wasn't anything new with the past storm. We get snow all the time but these low temps are rare for around here. Not just as you stated for length of time it' been under 32 degrees but how severe it has become. It hasn' been this cold in decades. Some areas since the 90s others since the 60s.
Things like suspending operations of the Cape May Ferry, cancelling Penn vs Princeton men' basketball last night, rivers around here completely freezing over and the deepest frost line in 50 years are much more rare than a snow storm.
And no, as you can see the cat doesnt have my tongue. I'm at work. Didn't know you require an immediate response.

I still think it's a huge tool for sailors, though. Especially since it gives animations of both wind and sea state - with the latter consisting of base swell as well as wind-driven waves. You can predict, with some degree of accuracy, how shitty the ride is going to be.

Weak. When you have no shot at winning or even competing in an argument, resort to insults or distractions.
Or maybe start a new thread...

Wow you really do think the weather world revolves around you! Sad. Maybe you should stop your nonsense. I saw your original post and choose to ignore it. But that wasn't good enough for you. So you post again and I explain that it wasn't about you and now you cry again. Go play in your beloved snow.

Now you're just full of it. You posted just your little cartoon without any text at 12:53 pm, then I replied at 1:06 pm, since you still hadn't clarified anything (plus I also showed how you had incorrectly criticized me in the previous thread for the same thing), then you added all that text at 1:16 pm to try to make it look like I actually responded to your new text - the site puts a time stamp on edits.

Also, while the cold is certainly a big story, this past storm was also a big story, as it was the 2nd most powerful non-tropical cyclone in the western Atlantic (by pressure) and deposited 12-18" snowfalls at the NJ coast, LI, and New England, which is a once in 10 year storm (historically). So, they're both big stories, which is why the thread and many of my posts were about both.

WTF are you talking about??? What cartoon?
There was no editing done. It began as a blank post as I had a customer and hit post replay. Than came back and filled. I knew it was a bad idea to respond to your nonsense. My post last night had nothing to do with you. But you had to post not one but two if it was about. You are so full of yourself and love conflict. You have some real issues. First get over yourself.

Just for completeness, assuming that this site will actually retain our posts for many years, here's the final snowfall report for the storm, which is more complete and only includes end-of-storm reports. Also, note that blizzard conditions (for 3 hours or more) were verified for many locations in NYC/LI for the storm.

Like every one of our arguments, you started it and I'm merely responding. If you didn't make really stupid/incorrect posts or didn't explicitly attack/criticize me, we'd never interact. Look at the bottom of your post 567: it says:

"WhiteBus, Today at 12:53 PM
Last edited: Today at 1:16 PM"

That means you made a post at 12:53 pm and then edited that post at 1:16 pm. You can't even get that right. So your claim of "there was no editing done," is complete BS and you know it.

With all respect, RU 848789, I think you had what are called "rabbit ears" on this one. It was unclear whether White Bus was referred to you, and so I think the best thing would have been for you to assume that he wasn't. There's no sense hitting back unless you know that you're being hit.

As always, thanks for your fine commentary.

I'm a little nervous about the storm we may have Monday; as I think bac said, a wintry mix is much more dangerous to life and limb than snow.

#s let me know when you see the above blank post. I will than edit it to show you how wrong you are. As author I can edit my blank post.

Bitches, shut up.

I propose a solution to this ridiculousness and I think @DJ Spanky will see it as great wisdom.

When these two get to trashing a perfectly good thread for no reason, @WhiteBus should be banned, as punishment to him, and the thread itself should be DELETED, as punishment to @RU848789.

Wow you really do think the weather world revolves around you! Sad. Maybe you should stop your nonsense. I saw your original post and choose to ignore it. But that wasn't good enough for you. So you post again and I explain that it wasn't about you and now you cry again. Go play in your beloved snow.

RU#'s is the most sensitive poster on this board, which is why so many folks make fun of him.

Very good idea. But RU#'s can't post any weather-related threads for as long at WhiteBus is banned. Fair is fair.
