View it this way. Once the offer comes in or is procured by the collective, the employer owes some form of fiduciary duty to the employees to participate. These are contracts between the collective and the promoter, which include the student-athletes or athlete-students as third party beneficiaries. Very tough for a coach to say no. This will be the way of the world out of conference and there will be some unique, out of the box tv deals involved.
