It's been a three month blip but agree still too early to tell. Personally I think we are bouncing off the lows of inflation and we continue to head higher from here. Who knows what we see tomorrow but we will get another data point.

That's why it's interesting to look at the components but you need to focus on the big picture.

Sorry my answer wasn't clear. I don't know the answer to your question it was I should have said. Been reading a bunch of comments from analyst and this number has taken everyone by surprise. They are all basically saying they have no idea what tomorrow's number will look like. Combine that...

Ha. That's crazy. I'm not sure about your question. I think this is more of an indicator for tomorrow's number but it's such a big beat it got people's attention. Combined with the GDP number you are really seeing a big upward more in yields in the US and across Europe.

Core PCE was today. The Federal Reserve's primary inflation gauge, the core PCE (personal consumption expenditures) price index, rose at a 3.7% annual rate in Q4, above 3.4% expectations. That followed back-to-back quarters of tame 2% annualized inflation, right at the Fed's target...

And PCE comes in hotter than expected. Not a good day for economic data.

You're right, my mistake. I don't what you are talking about with recession and right wing comments. The point of the article was that the Fed should be cutting rates to lower inflation. Is that what you are arguing?

It was 5% for one qtr. Much less than that if you look at the bigger picture. https://www.bea.gov/data/gdp/gross-domestic-product

Recessions are measured by nominal GDP, not REAL GDP. The latest inflation numbers were almost 3.5% which is roughly the same as the latest GDP. So the REAL GDP is basically zero. I said it was negative because I think the inflation numbers aren't accurate and inflation is higher than...

    OT: Stock and Investment Talk

This makes no sense at all. Inflation persists because of out of control deficit spending. All of the "growth" we have seen in recent years has been the result of government spending and real growth has been negative because inflation has outpaced GDP growth. Powell will stay higher for...

You and everyone else should be very worried about the state of affairs in the world. 30 years of British style imperialistic warmongering by the US is about to bite us in the ass. Both parties are to blame but it's not a coincidence that it is all coming to a head under the most incompetent...

Sure, happy to. He misunderstands the purpose of the SPR. It's purpose is to act as a reserve in the event of a supply disruption. It's really not that big of a reserve so should be used for emergency services, military, etc. He feels that it supposed to be used because the price of gas...

What are you talking about? I said nothing about the relationship between gas and oil. This is obvious, everyone on the board already knows this.

    OT: Electric vehicles

Actually you should reread it. It says they "feared" the supply chain "might" be disrupted. That is not the same thing as the supply chain actually being disrupted so thanks for making my point. You also keep confusing price with supply. Those are also not the same thing. If you want to...
