Ugh. When we really need them...which is always.
So close to make but so hard to achieve.Ugh. When we really need them...which is always.
EO shot well from the line. The others not so much.We actually shot pretty well from the line. In with you on the 1 footers. And don't forget giving up way too many second chance points.
I would like Mathis to be that guy. Take it to the rim hard. Maybe you draw a foul or maybe it opens things up for an offensive rebound. He seems to have lost that killer instinct mentality he had for that run of a few gamesI hope next year with Young penetrating it will stop some of our scoring droughts. When the team is shooting poorly we need someone who can get to the basket or dish for an easy attempt.
At least to draw a foul and maybe convert a FT. Right now our bigs aren't good at receiving a pass in close quarters and doing something with it. Johnson had opportunities to score in close besides put backs as did the other guys. Very limited in moves to the basket and get their shots blocked too often.
Doesn't matter so much if we're hitting some shots, but it does during empty possessions. Playing good defense is disheartening when you can't score and the other team starts marking some plays. Maybe we didn't deserve it with that first half, but just couldn't catch a break at the end. It was winnable and let it slip away.
Montez needs to shoot 1000 FTs every day starting last night after the game. Shoot after the Iowa home game.I would like Mathis to be that guy. Take it to the rim hard. I do not think shooting more will necessarily help although it might. I believe his technique and release has to change as his rotation is not solid. He will be fouled a lot in the next 3 years but I would bring in a foul shooting coach to change his shot, release, rotation , etc.Montez needs to shoot 1000 FTs every day starting last night after the game. The need for players to stop scoring droughts is obvious at Rutgers.Eugene was the only player who had a pulse in the first half but his scoring is limited to around the basket .The team needs players that can shoot off the dribble and make jump shots or pass off to a teammate for a layup.I hope next year with Young penetrating it will stop some of our scoring droughts. I mentioned this in another thread. Myles has to be shown the video of 2 separate things in the last 12 seconds. Caleb drops an absolute dime to him for the game winning flush but he fumbles the ball. But a hard lesson most good big men develop, is to take his time , do not rush, use your pivot foot to gather and then flush it. After he dropped the pass, he got it quickly with still no one around and instead of using his pivot foot, to gather and then go up, he panics and throws it all the way out to the wing to Harper. That is the first video lesson. The second one occurred at the end on the rebound. If he goes up with 2 hands not 1, he could have gathered the rebound and flushed it without coming down. He could not control it with 1 hand, was bumped by Eugene , but still he got it, and if he goes up with 2 hands for the flush , Reeves likely fouls him. He went up with 1 hand and got it easily blocked . Again , gather, use pivot foot and 2 hand flush. Another tremendous teaching video.Myles two bricks really hurt us. Could have cut it to 8 or 9.
We're very tall as a team and pretty athletic to boot. What we aren't is making those little 5-6 footers down low in traffic. Most of our guys can't adjust their shot while faking and the shot gets blocked. BTN even said you have to lead with your shoulder to prevent the block. Of course, the guys we need the most to have this ability are also bad at the FT line. So much of this is just instinctive basketball and you either have it or you don't. Team will get better no doubt, but we really need to develop consistent shooters. The need for players to stop scoring droughts is obvious at Rutgers.Eugene was the only player who had a pulse in the first half but his scoring is limited to around the basket .The team needs players that can shoot off the dribble and make jump shots or pass off to a teammate for a layup.
I'm not going to go back and watch the tape to count but the number of times we got the ball to the rim and couldn't get it in seemed high.In with you on the 1 footers.
He needs to practice shooting it correctly. You can practice something the wrong way until you drop & it won't help. Seen so many athletes do it in various sports.Montez needs to shoot 1000 FTs every day starting last night after the game. Shoot after the Iowa home game.
