I think like most fans I have mixed feelings about the start of the Ash regime. On the one hand, he gets a pass for the upcoming season and I'm excited to see how he redesigns RU football; on the other hand, I'm disappointed that he couldn't convince some of the 2016 commits to remain, particularly Barbir, Wright, Rene, Mack, and Russo. Rivals, Scout, and 24/7 have already begun focusing on 2017 and I'm concerned that Ash will have similar problems recruiting the higher star ranked kids in the 2017 class considering it takes time to build relationships, so I'm giving him a pass for the 2017 class as well, meaning I won't be surprised if he isn't able to get any 4 stars from NJ, NY, PA, or MD. Does anyone expect him to be able to sign a class with a few 4 or 5 stars? Thoughts?

No unless we have a "Houston" like year no we will build our program on 3 stars just like MSU did to get where they are today. Yes today they get 4-5 stars but they got to the top on 3 stars.

Coming from Ohio State as a coordinator, Coach Ash should theoretically have some relationships already built with the 4 & 5 star recruits he was recruiting at OSU, on the defensive side of the ball in particular, especially in NJ, PA and MD where OSU has some recruiting success and where Rutgers should be well primed to recruit going forward. I'm slightly concerned with a reason that Mack told Todderick the other day that he didn't want to "wait for Coach Ash to be able to install his new offense until his Junior Year", to me that means Coach Ash was very upfront with the recruits as far as installing his preferred offense and many of the top recruits do not want to wait around for the right pieces to fall into place. Coach Ash and staff may have some trouble reeling in the top recruits, but I will not give him the pass just because he doesn't have relationships built, I'll give him a pass because its still a rebuild when considering the drastic change in style of play. I do think there will be at least 1 four star kid in this class, possibly a NJ O Lineman.

Right now there are 18, 2017 kids rated 5* by Rivals. 5 have already verballed including 2 to OSU. I wouldn't count on any 5*.

4*? Who the heck knows a year in advance? Hell, as we've seen you don't know what a recruit is going to do 24 hours before NSD anymore.

I absolutely expect him to land some 4-star kids. No reason not to and, IMHO, he's already off to a very good start with commit #1.

Also, I'm not going to hold Ash responsible for losing kids who wanted to play for Flood, to play in a different Offense, who knew they wouldn't last here under Ash OR who were planning to leave, before signing day, regardless of the HC's name.

PA is loaded with 2017 talent that can't all go to PSU, Pitt or Ohio St...RU should be able to get some of them and Ash should already have some of those relationships started from his time at OSU.

BC and Temple benefited from hiring RU coaches. Meanwhile, Ash's OSU didn't amount to chit in recruiting.

Commit #1 is a Flood commit and he is ranked a 2* at 247. So can you explain your comment that Ash is off to a very good start with commit #1?

You're right but he's held onto the kid so far and, yes, I like him a lot as a recruit regardless of who recruited him (I've said time-and-time again that Flood did find some very good 2-star kids BUT that you can't have back-to-back-to-back classes filled with them...never said otherwise...you just like to hear what you want to hear...).

Here's a GREAT idea: stop worrying about what I have to say.

Another spin by you, trying to give Ash credit for a Flood recruit. You are just a born liar. If I didn't call you out on this lie then people would think that Ash got Jones to commit.

LOL you calling anyone else our, for anything, is hysterical. You LITERALLY threatened to "beat the f*^k" out of a fellow poster last week. Anyway, people make mistakes. That being said, I OBVIOUSLY made a mistake, and then give Flood credit for catching a good kid early, so what's the problem? And you honestly think that if YOU didn't "call me out on this" people would think this was Ash's recruit? Wow, thanks, I didn't realize my word was gospel around here lol!

Compared to 2016 which was a bumper crop. It's going to be tough to match that class. But I'm wondering if it's decent by NJ standards?

Sorry sir, that's all I heard. I'm no recruitnik so I can't answer. I'm sure there are those who could. Maybe they'll respond.

BTW - completely disagree that you are like "most fans" and "mixed feelings" here. I would think, reading these boards and getting feedback from my distro, and social media, that's it's the complete opposite. Most do NOT have "mixed feelings," however, are cautiously optimistic at this time.

My "mixed feelings" vacillate from elated, optimistic, excited and anxious for the season to start. So if that's what he meant, I have mixed feelings, but they are all good ones.

My feelings are optimistic, not mixed at all. I might have hoped we'd hire a Saban or a Meyer. But I didn't expect it and anybody that did needs to bottle and sell that shit.

B.S. I always here this claim and it simply not true. Prior To Dantonio arriving MSU had 16 4-star in the four classes prior to him arriving. His first four classes had 18 4-star recruits and 1 5-star recruit.

Ash should be held100% responsible for 2017 class. Whether it under performs do to offensive transition or any other reason is what it is.

He knew he was taking over a pro style offense and needs to transition over.

We are not winning 10 games this year or the year after. He needs to be able to pitch what we have to offer and get recruits as much as other mid range p5 programs do.
