27 point dogs saturday...

This exceeds the estimates in the "guess..." thread.

Not a good sign when we're actually worse than we think we are.

We can only root and support the team. Real change can only come from up top. I hope I'm wrong but the point GAP is going to be in the high 40, low 50 range.

Bring it.
Reasons to be optimistic:
Their OL is a mess.
Chris Ash says we are getting better.
We are overdue for a game where it all goes right for RU.
PSU is due for a let down and they will underestimate RU.
Transitive theory-we both played Minnesota and Indiana close---that went real well with Iowa and Michigan!

Reasons to worry:
Our offense or lack thereof.
PSU's defense.
Our special teams.
Despite their OL being a mess, McSorley is mobile and dangerous.

We are going to have to have a mistake free and McSorley and Barkely are going to have to have a bad game to keep it close.

I would've thought a letdown would happen at Purdue right after OSU, or yesterday at Indiana when PSU played very poorly and Barkley was bottled up.

I said in another thread, RU will be fired up and PSU is banged up and anything can happen. But I assure you the team will not overlook or underestimate Rutgers. If RU wins it will not be because PSU looked past them. My humble opinion.

Indiana had a nasty defense yesterday. Barkley got going at the end when it counted. Like our game, Indiana did their best to give the game away with 5 fumbles. PSU capitalized, we did not. That's the mark of a winning team.

Again, if one was inclined to play the transitive theory game, looking at Minnesota, Indiana and Michigan, one could conclude the RU PSU game should be close. But the transitive theory is rarely correct, and that also leaves out the OSU game.

Also the Iowa game. But none of it matters.

Indiana is no slouch for sure. They have legit LBs and play to pace on O. They take smart chances and can score in bunches. Credit to them and I was happy that PSU got out of there with a win after being down 10 in the 2nd half.

I will be similarly happy this Saturday with a 1-point win. I don't care about content or style or yards, especially if we are banged up on the OL. This season is what it is but Rutgers will play hard and if PSU wants to advance they need a W. You just never know.

I think the line is high because I believe we will keep it pretty Vanilla on offense.

I don't expect McSorley to run much if at all as a pure run play. He tweaked his ankle against IU. I'm sure he will scramble if needed.

With a patchwork OL I believe the play designs also will be more straight ahead. Less pulling from the line etc.

We will still throw our 8-10 50-50 deep balls and if we hit more than our fair share than all bets off are off.

Our D has been playing pretty well and I expect that to continue.

In short 27 points is a ton and if Rutgers keeps it close in the first it could be a 10-14 point game. But I'm not a betting man so what do I know.

Your D is the real problem for RU. Against any stifling D, we have put up next to nothing:
tOSU- zero
Michigan-zero
Iowa-7
Granted, those games were with our former QB, but MSU was a bad game. If our QB can actually run, we have a small chance. We shall see.

I think the line is probably not far off, TBH.

In your favor is that we haven't shown much of a pass rush all season long. Except against Howard. So even if PSU keeps it vanilla and McSorley doesn't run much, if we can't pressure him, he's going to be able to pick apart our defense, especially on slants and medium distance crossing routes (our LBs are both inexperienced and very banged up).

Our offensive woes are well documented this season. Hard to see where we find production at this point. I suppose Martin will be healthier and a full-strength Martin might help in the run game. But other then for short bursts, our OL play has been abysmal this season. Our WRs are inconsistent (at best) at gaining separation and when they do, our QB is usually under too much pressure to find them.

As another poster said, if Gio is healthy enough to run hard, that will certainly help. But hamstrings don't heal up that quickly, even with the intense daily PT he's surely getting. If the injury were that minor, he'd have been running more aggressively last Saturday.

So yeah, anything can happen, but on paper, the line is not farfetched.

I won't be able to watch or listen to it.

It is seriously too painful.

What do you mean "if" ?
I have friends who bet on all of these games and they're taking Pedd St. and laying the points.
I can't come up with a logical reason for them to do otherwise.

I don't bet, but if I was going to bet, I'd do the same because (a) logic and (b) I believe in always betting against my heart - that way I win something either way.

Only a football board does a PSU fan say I think the game may be close and Rutgers fans say no you will beat us bad. Define Irony lol. Here is to both teams playing hard and no injuries. Good luck guys.

PSU won't cover that spread. They are banged up and will be happy to get out of there healthy and with a win.

Good luck to you as well.

take Penn St./points and plan on seeing the stadium only filled with PSU fans throwing a party for most of the 2nd half (think OSU and UM). This is likely to make me vomit at some point Sat. night (and not from over consumption of booze).

Seen nothing from the team or staff to suggest otherwise. Sorry. truth hurts bad.

I don't agree. PSU is banged up. Rutgers will be fired up.

PSU should win but it will be closer than the spread.

How many RU season ticket holders are marketing their tix to the public as we now post ?

Could be a huge PSU presence at HPSS as they anticipate playing in the B1G championship game.

What's the over/under on PSU fans in the building ? 10K, 15K ?

I was on the verge of selling, but instead of my 2 kids, who don't want to go, we are taking fellow RU fans, and boxing gloves.

It's only a football game people, if you have tickets go and enjoy the tailgate and watch the game.
RU fans should stop being so over-dramatic.
We all expect them to lose big so if they somehow manage to keep it close it will be fun.

I do hope the Pen St fans buy the unsold tickets from the box office since that will help RU and the program financially. Franklin is urging fans to do so, as a favor to Hobbs.

So don't be bothered if you are surrounded by their fans.

I'll be surrounded by Pen St, ND, Pitt and Nova fans on December 10 at Prudential Center.
Should be interesting.

I already know I will be surrounded by Penn State fans, as my seat neighbor told me he was giving his tickets to Penn State fans. We have ordered four of these, in Scarlet, of course:

Sorry, but IMO if they keep score in a game then winning is important.

Hope this isnt in conflict with your view of Rutgets Athletics.
