Watched last night's game on DVR late at night, as I had other things going on and after seeing us play so well for 25 minutes, holy crap did the wheels fall off. From up 40-33 to down 62-46 on a 29-6 run by MSU. Even without their top 2 guys, they probably have a slight talent gap over us, but the key was Winston - he just destroyed us, along with them playing great D and us seemingly going into an offensive shell and forgetting how to rebound. Was a trainwreck for us in every way - not sure what Pike could've done, alhough I do think not having Mathis in on D against Winston for most (all?) of it hurt. We could've won that game. Oh well.

6-14 and top 100 KenPom was my "slightly optimistic" goal for the season. 5-15 and 90-110 ranking was my basic expectation.

Got a good shot of pulling it off. Thought our shooting would be even more improved, and the turnovers kill me sometimes, but there's definite progress happening.

this.....Rutgers had a 21-5 run over a 9 minute stretch in the first half vs Michigan State....an second half 11 point lead ON THE ROAD vs Michigan State....RU still had a 40-33 lead with 15 minutes left in the game. It was still a one point deficit with 11 minutes left in the game. TONS of positive to actually take. This team clearly competes on the road, all that stuff from yesteryear is gone, now the next step is winning on the road more.

Three point shots are needed but not with this teams lack of shooters.It was a game of two different halves but Rutgers second half was so bad that the game got out of hand .Its very difficult for Rutgers to sustain offense for 40 minutes especially after multiple substitutions leave a absence of scorers on the court.

Those are some tough stats to look at... If we only had a kind of bad stretch and not absolutely atrocious we would have still been in the game

I think the point is we all have big runs and bad stretches. Indiana was up 10 on us (on the road) at 27-17 and we went on a huge run like MSU did (including 22-0) and we were ahead by 14 after the run. A 24 point swing.

They never fully recovered. And neither did we. It will happen less as we get more talent and more experience. As many have said, we lack a guy who can penetrate at will and create problems. Maybe Young can help with that.

If Winston went down, it would be McQuaid or Goins or someone else. It just hammers home the difference in the talent level between us and a Top 10 team. Their "role" players are very talented but not often given many chances to perform.

MSU played their typical defense in the second half and were complacent in the first. Our second half defense was extremely disappointing.

The one where Omoruyi threw in at the shins of either Johnson or Doorson from about 5 feet away was just horrible. With no angle and no chance to lead to a play.

I think you know that is ridiculous. If Winston went down...they would have trouble winning any of their remaining games.

There's a reason Izzo is a HOF coach, and why Vegas had us as 16-point dogs. He knows what adjustments to make, and sometimes it's as simple as, our offense goes through Geo--shut him down and have Ward take it to his replacements when Geo (and Mathis) are on the bench.

Spot on comment that a segment of the fan base doesn't want to hear. Its the talent of the teams more so than referees that decide games.

That was the biggest play in their run...

Winston's late-in-the-shot-clock sidestep three from the corner was also a dagger. Played great defense for 28 seconds, thought we forced them into a bad shot - then just a killer move to beat us.

Yep, they rolled out that guy Tillman....never saw him play much.....19 points 10 rebounds.

Tillman had 11 pts, 8 rbs against us in the first meeting, too. He's averaged 8.7 pts, 7.0 rbs in just 21.7 min for them this year, with 11 games in double digits. He and Goins are their best rebounders on the season.
