NYC has power outages right now.
What a crazy coincidence.
It’s a tribute outage
I was within jogging distance of the Buchanan transformer station that fried back in 77. The whole sky along that part of the Hudson lit up (for several seconds) like it was daytime. There was a combo "zzzz" and " hummm" sound people heard for a few miles around. The bars and restaurants emptied out, and quite a few people thought Indian Point had experienced a major problem. It was already weird, hot summery with Son of Sam thing (one river front area was a huge area hangout, with dozens of cars and hundreds of people)
Meanwhile their top notch mayor was out on the campaign trail. The guy should resign if he wants to waste his time running for President
I was at the Fire Academy for a class when the last one happened in 2003.
When it went down it sounded like a plane was crashing into our building which was actually the turbines from the ConEd plant across Hell Gate grinding to a stop. They started to belch smoke too.
I forget which one now but only WCBS 880 or 1010 WINS was on the air telling us what happened. I was just starting a 24hr tour which ended up being very eventful.
