A reporter on ABC had a giant hand in hers and it was the Scarlet Knight!

Channel 7 mentioned Rutgers MANY times throughout the whole broadcast of the parade. Almost making a point of it. It was pretty awesome !!

NBC had lots of Rutgers comments too. Not just from Bruce Beck, who we know is a friend of RU, but the other hosts too. Also saw the Scarlet Knight there with a scarlet #10 jersey with "Carly" on the back.

Marketing slam dunk for RU. Wonder what recruiting for Women's Soccer will be like now?

I would rather have one Carli then the 10 other quote unquote top 10. Just proves that the ratings done really mean much at these levels.

Yeah, I'm shocked and appalled that Carli's performance for the ages during the World Cup victory five days ago has not led to immediate commitments to our women's program. [eyeroll]

No reason to think this won't have a positive impact!

Just checked a list at topdrawersoccer.com. Rutgers' 2016 women's soccer shows nine commits, three of which are four stars. four three stars, and two unranked. The website does not list anyone as a one or two star player. Four of the commits are from NJ, including two of the four star players.

We also are listed as having five commits in the 2017 class already. Recruiting for Olympic sports can have a very long pipeline, not like football or basketball.

Can we have the soccer recruiter recruit for our football program?

Soccer is different from football.

Most kids (men and women) who are really serious about their prospects about soccer as a profession attend academies overseas and train full time, year round. That's not for everyone, of course, so alternatively there are domestic academies that they can attend, but they are generally considered inferior due to the overall talent level (it's difficult to be the best unless you train with/against the best, the majority of whom are overseas).

Playing collegiate soccer generally tends to be for those who are very talented, but aren't gifted enough to be sponsored and developed by a club (it costs $$$!). These kids know they probably aren't good enough for top level soccer so they attend top level academic institutions on full scholarships to hedge their future income potential.

Did you see that? The Rutgers Mascot is there.

Just saw the knight on NBC as well.

If Wikipedia is right, every current member of the USWNT played college soccer.

I believe there were 4 players from NJ on the team - one went to RU (obviously), a second stayed in state at Monmouth, and two went to north Carolina where they both won several national championships.

22 women on the USWNT roster played in college.

US Soccer (Klinsmann in particular) is pushing the academy system (which is why they are sprouting up all over the place -- huge $$$ involved). My statement is more true of the men's team, but I predict the women's model will follow.
