Hi guys,

I have been a Rutgers fan for most of my life. I have been a season ticket holder for football with my dad for over 18 years. I've seen the highs and lows of the football program and I feel like we are at rock bottom again. The reason I posted this is because I just want to hear your opinion on the football program right now.

All kidding aside, we are trending up with recruiting and that is the most important part of rebuilding a program. It may take a few years but we will get back to going to bowls again.

Gotta thank Kyle Flood for his great recruiting classes!

Basically the Kyle Flood hire was a disaster that set the Program back light years. When Flood took the job, believe or not we were better than Michigan on par with Penn State and better than Notre Dame. Floods ineptitude was hidden by taking over a pretty good team. At the rate we were going we probably would've been as good as Michigan State right now.

Sad but true!

My favorite moment from the Kyle Flood era is when he went nuts after kicking a field goal against Michigan St. The final score was 45-3 hahahahahah

IMO there are two perspectives you can view Rutgers Football from since the turn of the decade:

1. 2011-2012ish - Supremely confident that with Greg Schiano, a self made man (positively viewed name head coach by national media (household name)), Rutgers would build on recent recruiting successes, be strong influence in NJ, and compete with the best once in the B1G (with an understanding we could sit atop the Big East or AAC at the time).

2. 2014ish - Don't know if we can get there. Foundation is strong enough that a good coach can bring us to compete, but, if he does, will that coach stay. It doesn't mean if they leave we can't continue to be good, but, you never know what you get. More importantly, CFB is a big brand business, for schools trying to break through, that aren't a big brand by themselves, they need the coach to fill that role, and then by association, the program can rise in the CFB Hierarchy.

I wanted to do a longer OP referencing the above in a more organized manner, including events, tracking my faith in the program across a timeline. BUT I don't think I want to revisit some of those emotions.

Record-wise we are similar to Greg's early years (ie. 2003) but ....

- our recruits are a little better then Greg had
- our schedule is a little harder now
- if we were in the AAC still I predict a 7-5 record this year with 2 OOC wins and then 5-3 in conference

2003:
- Miami was # 3
- Va tech was # 9
- Pitt was #10
- beat Buffalo, Army, Navy, Temple, Syracuse
- played 6 bowl teams (3 in top 25)

2016:
- Washington is #3
- Ohio St is #4
- PSU is #5
- Michigan is #6
- Iowa is #21 in the AP
- played 8 bowl teams (5 in top 25)

That was #1 on his plate. It was the reason he was hired.
And he should have been hired as a contractor to accomplish this (and paid out the wazoo for it) while a president with real and extensive experience at a large public university was hired.

But we're lightyears ahead of where we were at that point when it comes to facilities, infrastructure and institutional support.

I would agree with that. Our facilities, stadium, uniforms, etc. are as good as anyone else in the country. It was crap before Schiano.

If light years is 3 years, I agree.
