I wonder if Ash has the balls to try to lure Johnson away from OSU? He has a lot of football knowledge, and obviously is familiar with the defense Ash wants at RU.

Famously good recruiter of the mid Atlantic states. Would be a great ear for Ash to bounce ideas off. Johnson turned down the chance to be Illinois' DC and Associate Head coach back in 2009.

As an added bonus.....it would be a nice F-U move to Meyer after Meyer countered RU's move.....by hiring Schiano.

Johnson is currently making 420K as defensive line coach. Bump him to 550-600K and give him the DC/Associate head coach title.

I was a little surprised when he left PSU but OSU is a monster

if he left OSU for RU that would shock me...but in a good way...guy is an awesome recruiter

I don't see it but fun to speculate...especially since they got the OC at a reasonable cost

He left OSU because he got passed over twice for HC.

I don't see LJ leaving OSU but who knows.

me either unless he thinks he can ''stick it'' to you guys at an increased role or salary...but OSU can and will match us in salary in the latter.

He better not take Larry Johnson. At his age, I think he stays at OSU. Unlike at PSU, he never won a national championship. He finally has one under his belt.

Don't take LJ, Coach Ash! Take Tim Beck instead! :-)

I think you mean he left PSU because he got passed over twice.

He's a D line coach right now at OSU. It would be a step up for him to be a def. coordinator at Rutgers. He would run the entire D unit.

OSU could easily match 600K if we are willing to pay him that much money....but they couldn't match the increase in title and responsibility he would have at RU.

He has a better chance of sticking it to PSU while at OSU.

He has had the chance to take a larger role. He was offered the DC role at Illinois and turned it down.

Some posters say he is a great recruiter, but I think its a bit easier to recruit at OSU then say RU.

Yes, I know that. I stated that in my original post (that he turned down Illinois DC position.)

That was almost 7 years ago. before he was denied by PSU for head coaching job, then Ohio State for DC position.

no he don't....its a bigger ''stick it'' at the lesser respected school..we all know PSU ain't SUPPOSED to lose anything to us but with OSU......its reversed.....he can better ''stick it'' here but did the PSU brainwash have an effect..thats why i doubt he'd come here..take it from a NJ guy whose mom is originally from Greater Scranton ''Tunkhannock'' and whole family migrated to Essex County in ''39'' and i've been following RU since i was 11....53 yrs..

TTFP guest, that was rude of me,

I'm praying and fingers crossed that this is Ash's guy. Makes sense considering Meyer brought in Schiano. Meyer can let LJ go and wouldn't bat an eye

I doubt he is coming here even if for some reason he is leaving Columbus. Nothing obvious to me that he expected to be considered for the OSU DC job.

Tom Bradley , ex PSU DC, now the DC at UCLA. hey, you never know. Worth a call, maybe he misses good pizza.
