Any numbers yet on ticket sales in Section 118?

Good news. An empty and quiet/sedate Section 118 would be an awful look on TV broadcasts.

As of last week, they had sold about 75% of the available seating in 118

BK did these prospective ticket holders get any insight into what exactly they are signing up for (i.e. artist drawings, pictures of the proposed changes, etc)? As an Audi club member I was contacted about the opportunity but did not pursue it any more because I was skeptical about what I could walk into sight unseen.

As far as I know...

48 courtside style seats total, with sort of a lounge feel mixed in ( standing room tables, etc)

That info is by no means actionable...just chit chat I’ve heard. Not sure that’s definitely the way it’s going to flesh out

I can't imagine 48 people sitting at tabletops behind the basket. Awful look on TV as a backdrop to the basket. Always like that we played in a gym on campus with a raucous feel and not a arena. I hope Hobbs see this as NOT a good fit

Actually, it's probably going to look professional, not small time. IMHO, professional is worse: turning a collegiate aura into a pro atmosphere. Just sad.
Spot on, couldn't agree more. We can only hope the focus remains on maintaining a raucous gym on campus that opposing teams fear the environment.

Is there another college facility in the country that has something similar?

On a much larger scale, the "suites" at the Peterson Events Center at Pitt are along the same lines, but of course those suites are behind REGULAR SEATING on one whole side of the court. Still, I always thought it looked weird with just a few rows of seats court-side and then the glass suite doors immediately behind, in full view of the TV cameras. It wasn't very appealing to the eye on TV.

At the RAC, I just don't foresee a few dozen bar stools in section 118 looking good at all. But I'll reserve judgment until I see what it looks like. The facilities built under Hobbs have been universally appealing, so maybe he can pull a rabbit out of the hat with section 118.

I agree with this. Everything Hobbs has done so far has looked good. I'm sure he looked at several options. I also don't think 118 had enough raucous fans to intimidate opponents. I'm open minded to seeing this new design.

Instead of reading newspapers while the opponent shoots free throws, they can just hold up their menus. $$$$

Has anyone actually seen the full plans? I'm more inclined to think it's a few rows of actual seats with tables/standing area behind that. But I don't really have any idea except for reading vague descriptions on this board.

Its 48 seats. It’s 6 rows of 8. 4 seats or stools of each row on either side of basket with no one presumably directly positioned behind the stanchion. Assume in front of the seats or stools will be long tables where you can place your wine and cheese.

It’s definitely 48 seats but now I’m not sure if it’s 6 rows of 8 or maybe 4 rows of 12.

We do not want that section empty at crunch time and looking empty like the Fat Cat seats at Yankees Stadium. No one in the seats behind home plate in the late innings.

Should have expanded 118 not shrunken it. Awful move. No vision. Going to look like an empty airport sports bar.

This and the Yankee Stadium fiasco just makes no sense whatsoever.

From what I was told, it will be row length tables with seats similar to what a lot of arenas have in their suite areas. They may or may not have monitors on them for game replays etc.

From the description it sounds awfully stupid. I'll give Hobbs the benefit of the doubt until I see it. But it just doesn't sound like a good idea.

I wonder what the projected incremental revenue is..

I’m sure the thinking is that it will be used to wine and dine large donors. ...but if I was a large donor, I’d have no interest in sitting behind the basket...lol

Anybody else remembers the large "Trojan Horse" mechanical Knight horse that made one appearance at the RAC and was laughed off never ever to be seen ever again?

This will sadly be the same.

As I indicated in a previous thread on this topic, I think the purpose of this new configuration is to provide a perk to those who donate real money elsewhere:

* Without seeing any plans for this new section, or knowing long-term plans, I don't know if it is a good or bad idea. From what I have read in this thread, I would not be interested in moving my 100-level sideline seats to that section. I would guess that the target buyer for this new section is corporate/professional customers who would use the seats to give to clients and/or employees. My understanding is that the current floor seats are currently sold out, and there is additional demand, thus the move to add floor seats in front of Sec 118 last year, and likely the move to add this new seating area.

* I don't think revenue from these seats (48 x $2000 = $96,000 per season) is the driver. If the $96,000 is the driver, then Rutgers is playing a nickel and dime game when we need to be generating multi-millions. I think the driver for these seats is to provide the floor seating perk to corporate/professional customers who provide the real money elsewhere.

Do you really wine and dine upscale corporate donors behind the basket and mess up the thing that makes the RAC kinda cool? Closeness, loudness and intimacy.

Not everything RU does is right... as we have seen.
