B1G Arenas ranking

1. Indiana
2. Michigan State
3. Minnesota
4. Maryland
5. Purdue
6. Iowa
7. Illinois
8. Nebraska
9. Wisconsin
10. Northwestern
11. Michigan
12. Rutgers
13. Ohio State
14. Penn State

If that’s based on size, congrats. If it’s based on what’s the best place to experience a game when it’s sold out, tradition, noise/environment, etc. they are sadly mistaken. Mine would be (compared to theirs):

1. Indiana —
2. Northwestern (+8)
3. Rutgers (+9)
4. Minnesota —
5. Maryland (-1)
6. Iowa —
7. Michigan State (-5)
8. Wisconsin (+1)
9. Purdue (-4)
10. Illinois (-3)
11. Nebraska (-3)
12. Michigan (-1)
13. Ohio State —
14. Penn State —

Would love to hear BK’s list too.

I love the RAC. When it’s packed, it’s an unreal experience. We should be towards the middle of this list.

The rankings from that site is weighted by perception of Rutgers' time the B1G. I don't think the person writing the rankings has experienced the atmosphere at the RAC when it's at its best.

The atmosphere is great but let's be honest, the rest of the arena is awful. The concourses are terrible. It needs a legit renovation and then it could be near the top of this list.

What a joker. Using a RAC photo from at least six years ago - old scoreboard, Big East logo and all.
It may have been the only pic he could get permission to legally use. I noticed that there are some very detailed attribution credit on his photos. You've tried pretty hard to get photo permission when you're listing "under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic License" for a picture. You almost never see that.

The pic of Maryland's arena is old. ACC logo on the court and their old tiny above court scoreboard.

According to the content in this piece, the reporter ranked the arena's based "on the building itself, and on its environment during games."

It needs a renovation, but that’s not happening for a while.

14 has got to be correct. I can’t imagine a worse arena. It’s like a morgue.
Thats why its asinine to consider building a new hoops arena for RU. The RAC is small but has character. Now renovating it like NW did with Welsh Ryan, that makes sense completely. Gut the office part out and you could possibly squeeze 10k in the RAC.

sorry but you cant possibly put RU third...until RU proves it by winning and by having a strong student presence every game and actually win big games they dont belong in the top 10..your ranking totally disregards Big 10 tradition

bingo...its sad really because there are so many people at PSU, they just couldnt give a lick about it, even when the team is half decent, its one program in this league that does not deserve to be successful

there were what less than 5K on Saturday actual attendance yet the line for food was the longest I have seen it in quite sometime. The RAC is pretty poor when it comes to being fan friendly and its a horribly ugly outside, hopefully once the practice facility is built they spruce up the outside because its sort of embarrassing

Would suggest that Assembly Hall is a trip well worth making if you can ever get out there.

Been there several times with a former client and it's really cool.

Was always struck by the amount of elderly people who had season tickets around him.

I think some of them had their seats since Branch McCracken was HC. :):)

Hey guys just been around your new training facility that’s being built, that is a very nice area with all the housing and student activity. My only question is, why no LED boards or any basketball promotion for men’s and women’s basketball in front of The Rac? It’s just a hill surrounded by road and grass.

dont ask me, I guess that they are waiting for the whole thing to get done...however they have been using excuses for years...the front of the RAC is embarrassing, it looks like a shithole really and this goes back 20 years. The school is all about penny pinching...and yes even when the full share comes in its going to penny pinch

My guess is many people who post on this site have not experienced the atmosphere at the RAC when it’s at its best. They would have had to have gone to the big games in the 80s/very early 90s (e.g., WVU in 82, PSU in 89, Missouri in 91, and UNLV).

The two venues that would be of most interest to me for a visit would be Williams Arena and Assembly Hall.
