Anyone know? Thinking our home slate has Michigan & Penn State as the 2 favorites for a night game, with Iowa having an outside chance.

BTN is against low ratings.
If a Nov. night game gets some pop in TV eyeballs we will play $$$
Hell Minnesota/Wisconsin Nov. day time temperatures are usually below night coastal temperatures in Nov.

I found some articles about it from a few years back, and they are permitted so long as all parties are in agreement. I guess before November 1st, the networks can dictate that the game be at night but after November 1st, the teams must consent in order for there to be a night game.

Last year they released the night game schedule about this time, so we should know soon.

Yea read that too but times they R a changing with 2 coastal newbies and competition for eyeballs$$$, rules fall by the wayside. We are fighting the Fox empire as well as the SEC and ACC network.
Yo folks this is war and media war at that, no holds bard (or Rules)

Why would Penn State agree to doing a night game in November, giving your rival a better atmosphere for both that game and for recruits to see? I'm sure they want a noon kick

I would guess our only chances for home night games are Iowa & Michigan, unless TTFP agrees to a Nov night game. I hope we can get 2 home night games as many others may be crappy noon.

" unless TTFP agrees to a Nov night game"

Since when does the visiting team need to agree to a game time, isn't this up to the conference/tv networks?

"Four years ago, the Big Ten clarified its November night games policy, saying that while a contractual provision exists between the league and its TV partners about prime-time games after Nov. 1, the games can take place if all parties are on board and planning begins early."

A couple of thoughts:

- we're not getting 3 B1G night games

- we're not getting 2 B1G night games, AT HOME, in a 3-game stretch

- either Iowa or Michigan is a 3:30 game

I'm going with, for our home slate, the following:

Howard - Noon (yup, another "nooner" to open the season)
New Mexico - Noon or Night (praying for the latter)
Iowa - 3:30
Michigan - 8:00
Illinois - TBD
Indiana - TBD
PSU - TBD

Agree that Michigan-RU will be at night.

Looking at their sked, there won't be too many opportunities for BTN or ESPN/ABC to showcase Michigan at night.

Michigan already said it won't have any night homes games this year.

The Rutgers game is their first road game and they never ever play Michigan State at night. That pushes you into November with their game at Iowa City the only other possibility since they never play Ohio State at night. So there's basically only 2 games that can possibly be at night for them.

I would guess Iowa & Michigan could be 8 pm on BTN & @ tOSU 3:30 pm on ABC/ESPN.

I think last time it was announced around the end of Spring practice if I remember correctly. Not sure if it will be the same this year

Obviously nothing would be sweeter than beating Jim Franklin under the lights but I think TV will take into account that both teams could struggle this year. They're not going to want a night game that late in the year between two teams long out of contention for the Big Ten East title.

First, I think if the network and conference want a given game to played under the lights then it will be. The individual schools could certainly express a preference but once a decision is made they'd be expected to deal with it.

Second, a November night game in New Brunswick is completely different than a November night game in Madison, WI, for example. Check out the average low temperatures for each location at that time of year. In New Jersey the average lows are still in the 30s while in Madison they drop into the low 20s. The conference didn't want fans driving home late at night on crappy roads. Sure, a storm could blow through the east coast area but odds are the drive home won't be on hazardous roads.

Lately the B1G has realized prime time exposure in November is a good thing. On 11/12/16 OSU visits Maryland. That would also be a good choice for a night game due to the relatively moderate Maryland weather in November.

I'm also hoping the Michigan game is at night. I'm doing a Tough Mudder in the morning with my best friend's crew. (he's a Michigan fan and I gave him a standing invite to an RU game)

Also doing the mudder. What time you figure it will be done?

One more try: we play 3 Iowa, @ OSU, Mich...IMHO we are NOT going to get BOTH of those home games at night. [thumb2]
I think we could because they are early enough in the season, so worst case we're 2-3 going into Michigan, & I don't think tOSU will be a night game.

First of all, the big B1G teams haven't played each other the past 2 years so those games will be taking top billing (osu, Mich vs. NE and Wisc). I say that just to say, couple that info with our 4-8 record last year and we probably should unfortunately he content with 1 night home game this year.
Secondly, 2 bigger B1G games on 9/24 (Wisc@MSU and psu@Mich) but none on 10/8. I was hoping for iowa to be at night but Michigan on 10/8 seems most likely.

Those games likely have very little to do with us getting two 8pm games on BTN because all of those games are likely to be ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 330 or prime time.

I'm gonna throw it out there again: I would be beyond shocked if both Iowa and Michigan are at night. I'd give it about a 2.5% chance of happening. Too many big games the day we play Iowa and, well, we were a horrible team last year. Add to that the fact that, once again, those games are only 2 weeks apart, and my 2.5% might be generous.

I don't know about that. If that were true, why is Ohio State at Michigan never at night? Why is Michigan-Michigan State never a night game? Those would be absolute slam dunk prime times games.

In most instances TV rules, I agree but not 100 percent of the time.

Michigan/MSU will never be at night because there is legitimate concern that people would die outside of the stadium in fistfights. If you've ever been to a game in East Lansing you would understand that as being a distinct possibility. It's an interesting fanbase, to say the least, and they live to hate Michigan.

The UM/OSU thing is based on over 100 years of tradition, long before TV was ever invented. Once you start bringing that kind of cachet to the party you can have a little more influence on things. Also, they like having that 11AM national window all to themselves. Everyone in the country knows what time that game is going to be on every year, although I think a majority of both fanbases would rather have it moved to the afternoon if they got to choose.

For the record, Iowa hosted Minnesota at night on 11/14 last year and the weather was gorgeous. I would be completely shocked if Iowa/Mich on 11/12 is not in primetime, whether it be on BTN or more likely the Mickey Mouse family. Still usually in the fall weather sweetspot in the Midwest at that point in the year, but anything later than that is really pushing it.

For the record, my understanding of the November night game deal has always been that PRIOR TO THE SEASON the TV networks can basically do whatever they want to, within reason, as far as assigning game times. It's only once the season has started and you're making determinations on start times within a few weeks of the game that the visiting team has to "consent" to playing a night game.

You rarely ever seen a B1G game end up under the lights that wasn't previously announced sometime in the spring.
