What do people want to see out of the Norfolk State game?
For me, it is the following:
1. QB: Is Rettig our guy or not? I've watched the Rettig, Laviano, Flood, and Carroo videos from the day of all the suspensions, and I am totally confused. Rettig seems happy, but very circumspect when talking about anything other than starting against NSU. Laviano seems unhappy. Flood was totally non-committal. And Carroo, when asked whether Rettig earned the job, was complimentary of the work Rettig put in, but seemed somewhat evasive. I hope they all know what is going on and that there isn't confusion or division in the locker room, but I'm very curious to see who comes out under center in the second half of Norfolk State, but even then it may not tell us anything (If we are up big, Laviano comes in, and Flood say 'we wanted to get him some work'. If we are struggling in the first half, Flood says 'We thought a change might help move the offense').
2. Will we dominate? These games aren't typically great barometers of anything, but if we don't dominate an opponent like NSU, it probably means we will struggle against better opponents. I think Washington State is a game where we will need to score 30+ points to win, so demonstrating an ability to move the ball easily will be important.
3. Position Battles: I assume Austin and Boggs will be our starting CBs. Seeing how the safety reps are split between Hester/Jacobs and Stephenson/Cioffi will be interesting to watch. Can Joseph step up at NT as Bobby was very high on him last year...is this the year he takes a leap, or is Wilkins the future at the position? What about RB carries? How do the TEs shake out.
4. New Faces: How will K. Lewis look at MLB? Blessuan Austin. Kiy Hester. Miller at LG and Nelson at Center.
5. Offense: I know it is Norfolk State and that we will likely play pretty vanilla, but is there anything to take away from McDaniels first game as OC.
Anything else? I'm officially ready for silly season to be over and to watch some football.
