Rutgers, 2 ex-football players reportedly accused in sex assault suit
Marques Ford, Rutgers and John Bowers sued for alleged sexual assault in Nov. 2015. Did not even know who Bowers was but he was a punter, and the alleged victim was his alleged girlfriend, allegedly. Victim claims she consumed too much alcohol to consent.

Ford said "I wasn't comfortable with the school, basically," when he quickly left the team in December 2015.

Yeah I was just about to post this. Interesting that they both transferred.

after this happened they were shown the door. Should be a non story outside of this initial article.

Missed it, but on Nov. 9, it was reported Ford transferred to East Carolina. That is where QB Philip Nelson wound up, and he was having a decent season, despite ECU not being very good. He has been sidelined with a shoulder injury.
As noted, did not realize we lost a punter in Bowers, which partially explains why we are thin at that position.

Its a story if the school did not pursue the actual charge of rape as opposed to just dismissal. But a lot more details are needed for any kind of real opinion.

NJ.com you say?

The website wrote that, according to the complaint, K.L. suffered "extraordinary and severe harm" because of the alleged assaults by Ford and Bowers, as well as the “sexually hostile” environment that allegedly existed at Rutgers.

K.L.’s attorney is Jeffrey P. Fritz of the Philadelphia-based firm Soloff and Zervanos PC.

According to law360.com, the complaint contends that Rutgers violated the U.S. Department of Education's rules against sexual discrimination, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and civil rights laws. The former players, Ford and Bowers, are accused of assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, recklessness and conspiracy. The plaintiff is seeking punitive damages, attorneys' fees and court costs.

I dont see how RUTGERS has anything to do with this

All of the reports in the mainstream media are based on a report at law360.com and a few of those articles are just cut and paste jobs from other websites. Unless you have a subscription to law360.com (I don't) you can't see the complete article and it's hard to know why Rutgers is being sued.

See my post above.

More Flood recruited players with character issues, color me shocked. [eyeroll]

Let's hope the University handled their investigation properly and provided the victim with any support she needed.

Thank you. What you wrote was directly quoted in the app article. Did the app lift it from the law360 article? Was there anything more at law360? It's hard for a non-lawyer to understand how a sexual assault case against two students could lead to sexual discrimination charges against RU.

It's not up to the school. to "pursue the actual charge".

And folks here were singing his praise when Ford landed in his lap.

They do have obligations they must fulfill on campus. Hopefully they did everything they needed to do.

RUPD would have investigated the incident, assuming it occurred on campus. They would have passed the investigation on to either PPD or NBPD, depending on location. The school itself doesn't really have a role in a criminal investigation.

We'll learn more in the coming days and weeks, I'm sure, but the initial take is that the alleged victim didn't actually report the incident to anyone. Her complaint isn't that she reported the incident to the university, which subsequently failed to act. Her complaint is that the university created / fostered an environment in which this sort of thing can take place. It's pretty broad.

Supposedly MCPO is just now "looking into the incident".

Ash mentioned "distractions" on his TV show last week, wonder if this was what he was alluding to...

"....school athletics executives encouraged witnesses to change their stories to make it appear as though K.L. had consented to the sexual activity, the complaint said."

There you go. Way to go, Julie & Co.

except there is no timeline indicated, as to when it was reported, to whom, and when did these conversations on changing stories take place. If this is all under the old regime then from a PR standpoint you take less a hit. But it was my understanding, things like this are supposed to be routed outside the athletic department. So there is still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding how this was reported and investigated.

The dates are there, and you can infer the timeline whence the witness' story changed.

www.app.com has had the story as their main headline since last night and it is still the main headline this morning.
