Baker Named B1G Freshman of the Week

First of many accolades for this young man. The poise, maturity and IQ he shows on the court at his age is absurd. To better days!
If Paul Mulcahy was, indeed, at the Shoe game, he must have been impressed by the atmosphere. At the same time, watching Geo Baker, he must have realized that Geo will be playing point through Mulcahy's soph year. Is he willing to come off the bench for two years? Not to mention competing for time against Mathis, who arrives a year earlier--and Peter Kiss. Hopefully, Mulcahy believes in himself enough to relish the challenge, and sees that the coming depth of talent points to a bright future.

What I've been loving about Geo, too, is his assist to turnover ratio.
Right now he's at 1.72:1 (3.8/gm), which is the best on the team.
Comparison to some of our other guards in recent history (based on their full freshman season):
Sanders: 1.38:1 (4.3/gm)
Williams: 1.70:1 (1.2/gm)
Mack: 1.18:1 (2.1/gm)
Carter: 0.77:1 (2.1/gm)
Seagears: 1.58:1 (2.5/gm)
Rosario: 0.48:1 (1.4/gm)
Coburn: 1.11:1 (2.2 /gm)
Chandler: 0.49:1 (1.5/gm)
Farmer: 1.23:1 (3.9/gm)
The only two that averaged >2.5 assists per game as freshmen were Sanders and Farmer, and Geo's A/TO rate is better. Bright future ahead!

Kid is so good. He has NBA potential. If he can continue to work on his defense, and shot, while getting stronger to finish around the rim, he is going to be something. His court awareness and instincts are wonderful. Those are the intangibles that you can't teach.

What more impressive is Pike finding this diamond in the rough. I recall ppl bitching about his offer sheet too. Pike is the real deal as is Geo

Congrats to Geo. He has been outstanding so far. Many were down on Pikiell when he recruited Geo. They were so wrong.
