Today we were a no show against Iona getting beat 12-3. We had beaten Iona in the past 28 out of 33 games. Iona was 2-7 going into the game and had really played no one of significance. We had already blown games in the 9th inning to Boston College and Old Dominion on the last two Sundays. Our pitchers walk too many guys and go to a 3-2 count on almost every batter. Today no one could get a hit with runners in scoring position. Our 3 new frosh pitchers look decent but what about the veterans?
I also wonder why is Harry Rutkowski only being used as a pitcher? Here is a guy who was selected as Player of the Year by the Ledger when he played for Woodbridge H.S. last year. He led the state of NJ with 11 home runs as well as pitching well. In 11 games we only have 2 home runs. We certainly can use a big bat in our lineup. I just don't get it. I thought we would be improved this season but I just don't know yet at this point. We should be 8-3 instead of 5-6.

I had no idea he was also such a good hitter. They’re probably afraid he’ll get injured. I desperately can’t wait for our full share of B1G revenue so we can finally invest in every sport

Compare the way we recruit and put together a roster, and compare the breadth of experience and stature of our staff with other Big Ten programs and you will understand our doormat status in Big Ten baseball. When is the last time we had Rutgers players and coaches participating in the Cape Cod League? Compare this with the participation of players and staff from other Big Ten teams. Embarrassing. It is not all about money. It is about decision makers and leadership.

Twister,
The point of this post is not about a BIG school. We were taken to the woodshed by Iona! Yes, this program regularly suffers from many things, but are we to expect the small schools to also be superior?

Please identify the other Big Ten teams that you think Iona would administer a horse whipping to at their home field. The only blessing here is that we did not schedule a doubleheader.

Frankly, I think it was just a bad game. We should have beaten Iona, but our depth sucks. Not an excuse, just pointing out that anything can happen on these mid week games. Army took 2-3 from Maryland, so that should be a tough series coming up. Let’s not act as if B1G baseball is the equivalent to SEC football. We should compete in our weekend series games since it looks like our SP have improved. Obviously our bullpen is a problem, but I’m willing to guess we’re not the only ones in the B1G with such problem. The midweek games will be toss ups since who knows what we have going there.

Now let's have some fun:

1) Do you actually understand how the Cape Cod League works? Teams do not play in the CCL. Players do not "choose" to play in the CCL NOR is there a "draft." There are 8 franchises and they CHOOSE YOU to come and play for them, as individuals, NOT as teams. Get it?

2) don't even get me/us started about the roster again

3) YES, whether or not YOU think so, MONEY does play a role...a HUGE ROLE....in our issues

Just to touch on #3. You are 10000% correct. It’s been known for awhile that the school is picking some non revenue sports each year to invest more money in until we get our full share. For example, wrestling and lacrosse showed potential on the men’s side so we started in invest more in those sports. Same with women’s soccer. The new pitching coach shows a move in the right direction. Hopefully a bigger invest will help our recruiting budget. Totally agree with you

Exactly. There simply is no way in hell for us to fix ALL the sports, that NEED to (and can be) be fixed, at the same time. Prioritize spending now, fix what you can without spending in the other sports FOR now, then take care of the rest once the Brinks Truck back up to The Raritan! Think of it as a "triage" of sorts!!
