Baseball Visited Nebraska

Should be an interesting series -- Nebraska was ranked #23 preseason but is only one slot above us in RPI -- 96 to 97. The record does not look good but like RU, the schedule has not been easy. Their advantages are experience with the starting pitchers, although only one has been really effective, and more power than RU as well as home field. Overall, pretty even on paper and a good opportunity.

NU lost their 2 best pitchers early in the year. Youth has had to step in and it isn’t working. Offensively they stink for the most part. 1 kid hitting over .300 I think and in college baseball that is pathetic.

RU salvages the third game. The RPI should really consider home field advantage like the other sports -- RU had to overcome some real home cooking in that game. Even the Nebraska broadcasting crew had trouble hiding their bewilderment.

I was really surprised not to see Mazza pitch -- he is their most reliable lefty reliever and Nebraska has lefty bats. I hope he is not hurt because that makes the youngest staff in the nation even younger.

Rutgers for the past 4-5 years under Owens has been questionable in the pitching epartment . Sure injuries happen … youngsters are slightly pampered more so. As technically advanced as medicine is in sports today , the strengthening of young arms is a lost part of that. Not machine , weights and stretching but actual early arm development . Sure many pitchers can throw 90’s+ but lo and behold the amount of arm surgeries are a question that is a big area of concern . Never believed the theory that throwing too much hurts the arm. Certain pitches…. Yes sure.
