I"ve had Bath Fitters in my home for at least 8 years without any issues at all. Also comes with a lifetime guarantee. Try Bath Fitter Keyport O'Gorman BrothersAny recommendations ?
They came to my house and quoted $7,500 for about $3,000 worth of work. I couldn't believe the guy had the balls to say that number. Doing some research on them, they prey on a lot of older people in general. They come in with a high number, about $700 worth of materials and then send a few guys to do the work in a single day. If you negotiate people can get them to knock off 30-60% off the original price. Even if you say no, they keep calling.Any recommendations ?
Over priced and your experience will very based on installer. You don't know who is actually going to be doing the work. Their prices are much higher because someone has to pay the franchise fees and all those ads and kiosks in the mall. Unless you need it right away and in a day go find a independent contractor. It will save you a lot of money and you will know who is actually doing the work and get referrals from their work. Bath Fitters sub contract out jobs. So any referrals you get will be from their best teams. However you could get some guy who it his first job.Any recommendations ?
I fit okay but I'm not available for hire at this time.
Having replaced some older tubs in two of our houses, I would recommend taking the tub out and making sure that you do not have a lot of long time damage that you couldn't see with the tub in place. If the tub is cast iron, you can quickly break it into smaller pieces with a sledge hammer.
Keep in mind that grout often fails over time and small leaks that are behind and under the tub caused mildew and mold that will still be there when you elect to cover it up.
I agree with the post above that you can probably redo the entire bathroom for less than that tub cover.
Yup. They sell grout sealer you can put on. But instead of doing the water proofing you can use two shower curtains and have them wrap around the entire stall. Not only will you never have to clean the tiles/grout again but it keeps water from soaking into the grout and discoloring it. When the curtains get soap scummy just take them down and throw them away and put up new. No one really minds not seeing bare tile unless you are selling the house. One minor point on the above, tile and grout are not meant to be water proof. Proper waterproofing should be installed underneath.
That would've worked too. There were really a lot of ways to go w/a thread title like this one.I thought you were gonna say, you don't know anything about fitting the bath but you're available to lay the pipe...
THIS. Bathfitter is garbage. They didnt glue the bottom of my tub properly and it caused hairline cracks that led to water leaking through my livingroom ceiling from my upstairs tub. The glue was applied in linear strips not to the entire bottom of the tub. Plus as previously mentioned the warranty did not transfer over to me from the previous owner who had it installed. Not a fan of this company, the lifetime warranty is void when homeowner changes. Before I bought my home the seller had one installed. One of the panels is separating from wall a bit and bubbled up. I also thought lifetime warranty so I contacted bath fitter but they refused to cover it even though it was less than 5 years old cause I am not the homeowner who purchased it. They do not stand behind their product.
