We are planning to go to Michie for the Rutgers-Army game in November. I'm really excited they moved this from Yankee Stadium!

Has anyone went to a game at West Point before? Any suggestions on great seats not just for the game but for the views of the surrounding area? Any idea where visiting fans would sit, if I were to buy tickets through the school?

No really bad seats because it's not that big.

Upper part of lower level, between the 20's, on the Army side for a view of the field, Hudson River, many Army buildings and mountains. One of the buildings has a small bar open to the public with a panoramic view of the River, South Dock and mountains on the east side of the River. I've never seen more than a handful of folks there in the more than 10 times I've been there. I'll try to research and find name of the building (it's east of the Stadium, near the Parade Grounds, just before the steep outside stair case that goes down to the South Dock area (my favorite spot for tailgating).

Edit- the public bar /restaurant appears to be :
The West Point Club
603 Cullum Road ( on the grounds)

Good thing about Michie is that its a very ambulatory situation. You can move around pretty easy and lots of people do. The best views are from the top of the west side (the high side marked in blue where press box is). It should be no problem to take a trip up there and find a seat while taking in the views. People are slow to find their seats as game starts and they are quick to leave their seats (if not the stadium) by second half. Army fans are quick to go back to their reunions and tailgates in event of a blowout. Its a well worn drill there. Second half is adventure time.

I like to travel along the wall on ground level because you're almost on the sidelines. You often have have a refs view of the action, and you can hear the coaches in their "chalk talks". The upper level wall on east side is nice too and you can see the cannon go off across the reservoir. When there is an unusually big crowd, cadets will be strung out along the wall because they sell the seats in first rows that are usually left unsold for smaller crowds. Cadets aren't too quick to to move you but the MPs are, so grab a seat when you see guns and BDUs coming.

Visiting fans get seats in south end zone and southern third of east side of stadium (I roughly marked seats red in graphic below). Those seats aren't too bad since you can see the video board. The northern end zone I avoid most since the video is in back. The southeast corner gate leads to only beer area (food there too). They've expanded that area now and they've reconfigured ticket entry points and searches .

Ran across a pic I had from a time I sat up in upper decks. That's TCU across the field. The seats behind them are where the cadets sit now. The water is Lusk Reservoir - the Hudson is behind the trees

Thanks for all the replies. We're really excited. Where do the visiting fans usually tailgate? Is South Dock the place to be?

I'm looking forward to attending that game

They seem to be trying to liven things up a bit this year. The team always comes out running with the flag. This year they were preceded by a chopper from local Orange County Chopper shop (American Chopper tv show). After the 6 parachute jumpers landed, the helo came down just above the video board and flew very low over the stadium a few times (that's rare). Then at halftime they had fireworks (it was about 8.30). Never saw those before. They also expanded beer area and laid off car searches at entry. Since Rutgers is the biggest game this year I expect they will try to put on a good show (off the field anyway lol)

I think the seats that RU gets are in the endzone.....last game there was in a cold rain/snow

Last game I went to there was maybe 5-6 years ago. Night game with a cold rain. Rutgers fans were concentrated in the south end zone (Sections 1-5), but really anywhere south of the 50 yard line on either side had a bunch of Rutgers fans. I think we were somewhere around section 10 or 11 and there were other RU fans mixed in that section

I've never spent much time at the dock. For big games they often have big boats coming in. Northwestern had "Sailgate" when they came up. They rented a pretty bug boat for around 150 a person (including ticket).

I get to games in a few minutes and tend to skip the lots. Its easy to park in town and walk up hill to stadium. I've been in red lot a lot and thats usually full of visitors. That's an upper lot close to Stony Lonesome gate.

Good place to visit would be Trophy Point - great view and usually pretty active on game day. The graveyard is worth a visit too. That's usually quiet area on game day and more of a history trip outside the game vibe. Of course the museum is open even after games if they start at 12am.

Wow.......did not realize they moved it back to Michie Stadium. Happy to hear that. Much nicer to spend an autumn Saturday at West Point for a football game.

All seats for visiting teams are in the South End Zone. Having had an uncle who went to West Point my family used to have seats in Sec. 12 about half way up. Superb. Just about anything in the East Stands above the first 15 rows will be excellent.

What time should you be there by if you want to see all the pregame festivities that I've heard are must-see?

If you want the full day you need to see if the corp. is going to march on the parade ground that day. With a 12:00 start that would likely be 10 or 10:30.

If the skies are clear, be sure to be in your seats at least 20 minutes before kickoff.
