Hey everyone,
Ryan Snyder, I cover Penn State and Maryland for Rivals.com. I've posted over here many times. Most of you know me by now.
I was out in Hershey, Pa., yesterday to watch the players at the two schools I cover, but while I was there, I also asked about the two Rutgers offensive lineman, Zach Venesky and Jonah Jackson.
I was on vacation earlier this week, so I wasn't able to watch practice until Thursday. They were in full pads Tuesday and Wednesday, so I wasn't able to really scout them much myself yesterday. The staff is making sure the players don't get worn out, so it's difficult for me to give a fair assessment on those two from what I saw yesterday. Both practices were basically just walk-throughs.
However, I did catch up with Pennsylvania Head Coach Pat Monroe to ask about those two and he gave me the impression that both have been his best two offensive lineman this week, so that's a positive sign. I'm expecting both of them to start on Saturday night. I tried to learn more on where they'll specifically play, but he didn't want to open up about that. He did give me the impression that each could rotate between tackle and guard, and I did notice that during practice, especially with Venesky, so we'll see where they line up Saturday night.
Pennsylvania Head Coach Pat Monroe
- On both Venesky & Jackson
"Those two guys have been anchoring my offensive line all week. They'll both start on Saturday night and they've been very consistent all week. These guys always come to play and have also shown that they're leaders, too.
"But Zach is a real physical guy and he has great hands. I think he's been beat maybe one or two times all week and he's going up against some really good defensive lineman. Zach is actually a boxer, so he has great hands and I think that actually helps him. He also really knows how to use leverage to his advantage. He's also having a lot of fun out here. His teammates really like him. He's great in the locker room.
"With Jonah, in terms of pass protection, I haven't seen a better lineman out here this week. Now, I haven't seen everything. I'm going back and forth between all the positions, but according to his line coach, Tom Dickinson, he rarely gets beat when he goes up against someone one-on-one. I mean, he may have been beaten once or twice, but he's going up against some really good defensive ends and has been as consistent as they come.
"Both Zach and Jonah have really shined this week. They've made our quarterbacks feel very comfortable all week."
Unfortunately, the game is no longer being broadcasted on NFL Network. The game will be broadcasted in Pennsylvania and Baltimore. I linked those stations below. However, for most of you, you'll have to stream the game online via Big33.org. Click Here to access that link.
The game starts at 7 PM on Saturday evening. Just click on the link I posted above at 7 PM and there should be a live link to stream the game.
