Horrors. Brands could wrestle one of the best high school teams in Iowa and beat Maryland. It was for conduct unbecoming an Iowa wrestler. I wonder if he suspends him if it was a dual against Michigan or PSU when they needed himz

This is like Ohio St. suspending players for the Tulane game. You just knew everyone would be back the next week for the psu game. It's a hollow move by Brands just like it was for Meyer. Kids still out of control and Brands has no idea how to handle a kid on the spectrum.

Acted like DeSanto at the end of the match, pushing and shoving and going after the Nebraska crowd.

It’s just a style of wrestling / unfortunate that people are too sensitive these days to be able to stomach that. The kid is kicking ass

He’s on the verge of going full WWE.

Part of me finds his entire act comical. Bottom line... Suriano should have closed this fool out when he was up 3-0 but let him back in taking the loss. Just please go out in the B1G and beat his ass like you should’ve the first time. However, Micic first.

As for DeSanto, he’s winning right now. Don’t like his act? Beat his ass.

Kid cost them three match points in a row. His behavior essentially negated one of his regular decision wins.

Brands suspended him. That it was Maryland is irrelevant. The timing had Maryland on the schedule.

Let’s not forget, We wanted desanto too. Do t throw shade. It looks like sour grapes.

If he was here and did that the comments would be the same. Because we wanted him here doesnt mean he gets a pass. Kids a very good wrestler with a great motor but hes his own worst enemy

And do we think our staff handles this differently?

My comment was more on the whole “who cares it’s maryland” part

And intimidated ref called 3 stalls on Suriano , giving DeSanto 2 points he didn't deserve. The first was the rarely called double warning on each kid, even the BTN announcers were incredulous on this one as Suriano had almost taken some nice shots. 2nd one might have been valid, but close as he appeared get up from the legs on a ride in time, 3rd a gift to the Iowa fans.

Yeah, Suriano should never have been taken down at the end, but take the 2 stall points away and he still wins.

Iowa suspended him, did Drexel suspend him?
I applaud Coach Brands for the suspension.
1 Match is the first step.
If he does it again, what is the next step?
I am not sure of the answer.

I thought DeSanto should have been disciplined after the Micci Bout (DQ from tournament). Too my knowledge, he has not blatantly attempted to harm another wrestler this year.
Acting like an idiot is not the same as attempting to cause harm.

It is a fine line for Iowa to walk.

Edit: Just re read some comments....I need to watch the end of the Nebraska match again.

He punked his opponent, did some intimidating and then taunted the crowd a bit - Seriously nothing major but everyone is out for blood with DeSanto because he’s a nasty dude when it comes to wrestling and that’s not tolerable in today’s society . Can’t even be nasty in football, never mind wrestling

The throat slash is banned at every sport on every level and he did it for the umpteenth time.

Sorry but these are excuses. Nick gave up a last minute takedown so you can’t blame ref for that. He held onto that ankle way to long as the coaches told him to cut him... can’t blame that on refs.

Up 3-0 go Ashnault on him and keep scoring. Nick lost that match straight up. I think he takes him if they meet again, but no more excuses for Suriano. Step up and be that champ we all know you are.

I see your point about the late takedown, but 3 stall calls is just bizarre, especially the first one that the commentators talked about as being very rare.
I chalked it up to an official who was intimidated by the crowd and coaches at Iowa.
In a few weeks at the Big10 Tourney , Suriano will probably get his chance for redemption, on a neutral mat, without an intimidated official. Of course he will see #1 Micic on Feb 17. I can't wait to see that one !!!

I hope he sees Micic on Feb. 17. Some have posed that Micic ducks this regular season matchup as he doesn't have much to gain but has some to lose. What are your thoughts?

I don’t know the Michigan coach’s track record on sitting his stars.
Coach G has always said his guys will always be out there. Nick looked pretty healthy last weekend.

As long as both kids stay healthy, I think we see this match.

Although the Sqwawkers tend to have a history of being a bit lax in "wrestling decency," I wouldn't be surprised if DeSanto is released at the end of the season, just because he's so toxic for a team.

I'm not sure that anyone is going to want to touch this pariah.

I get your point -- they could suspend their whole starting lineup and probably win that match. But on the other hand, it is the NEXT match, so I think it's an acceptable response by Brands.

The suspension isn't a punishment to the team ("I will make it hard for you to win a match"). It's a punishment to a wrestler ("I will make you sit out the next competition.")

I think it's okay. The schedule provided a lucky out for Coach Brands.

If the Brands' suspend a wrestler for conduct unbecoming on the mat, that should give all of us a little bit of a sense of how no team should be touching Desanto with a ten foot pole.

This is not the end of the little weasel's problems on the mat.
