I know it takes time to build an Oline, and let’s face it, there wasn’t a lot of talent here under ash. Next year we bring in 6 olinemen, most of whom had other power 5 offers.
We all know it takes time to develop Olinemen. I did some research looking at NJ highschool lineman ranked in the state (top 35 or so) since 2016 to see how long it took them to get on the field.
2016
Will fries redshirted, then played 13 games and started 9 as a RFr (2017
Thiyo Lukusa played 8 games as a TFr, was a projected starter as a TSo but quit football fir a time and transferred.
Nick Krimin redshirted, , played specials as a rFr, then played 10 games and 3 starts as rSo
Liam Smith never really played much at Duke
matt henessey redshirted but started 1 game as TFr, then started every game as rFr (nfl pick)
2017
Micah Clark unfortunately never made it on the Field
carter Warren didn’t play at all as TFr or RFr, but became a starter as RSo
Ben Petrula started every game as TFr
Josh feddJackson saw action in every game as TFr, started 1, started every game as TSo before getting suspended and leaving team. Transferred to a school in 2020 that cancelled its season. Tried to enter the supplemental draft.
3 others that year Owen Bowels, Rob Martin, and Jamaal Beaty never became starters.
2018
Only listed olinrman was Kris banks who transferred to BC and plays DT.
2019
Caedan Wallace redshirted then started every game as a RFr
John Olmstead transferred from ND.
Blerim Rustemi has not started and only played a couple games at BC
Christian Mohagany redshirted but started every game as RFr
CJ Hanson has not played a lot so far
2020
Luke Wypler dnp as TFr but has started every game as a RFr
Chris Mayo has not played much at wvu
Bryan Felter played in 8 games and started 6 as tFr but isn’t playing as much this year
Devin Willcok dnp as TFr but has played in 5 games and listed as #2 on depth chart at LG as as RFr
lsaiah Wright and Christian Forbes haven’t played a lot yet at Rutgers or wake.
so looking at the list very few have started right away but many have made an impact in year 2. A few (krimin and Carter) began playing a lot more in year 3 but if you haven’t made an impact by year 3 you probably won’t. So you don’t expect any of the 2022 guys to make a big impact in 2022, but some should by 2023, and hopefully by 2024 they are really changing the program.
