Capt. Kirk hired by PJ Fleck as Minny new O.C.

So KC's bringing his Sunshine Band to Minnesota.

No, Captain Kirk:

Fleck is also bringing in OSU's outgoing OC as his new OL coach

Gee, sure looks like the guy knows what he's doing.

Maybe there's more substance to him than this row-the-boat fluff after all...

Some RU fans quickly coronate new coaches for other teams, while some (some being the same) love to complain about our coaches even when they are relatively new to the job.
?
I'm merely pointing out that some dismiss him offhand because of his antics.

I make fun of him myself, but I give him credit too.

Was KC subpar here? Yes, but can he succeed at Minny? I think so, given the right people his system will work well. I wish Fleck and co. luck at Minny except when we are playing them.

I wonder if Kirk would have stayed had Fleck not destroyed their recruiting class.

Anyway, always appreciative of KC. At the very least, it partially led to his daughter playing for our soccer team.

Taking over a 9-4 team isnt' the same as taking over Rutgers.

Let be clear about this.

The people who called Kirk Ciarroca out are the same people defending Ash because of lack f personnel to run the system.

Lest we forget when he came here Schiano built a Pro Style System then for some unknown reason then tries to turn it to more of a spread.

The results to all of us are known in that experiment.

Agreed. We had a bad year under KC but that's not all on him. I'm not a finger pointer so I wish him well.

I think the reason Schiano tried to move to the spread was twofold.

First, many teams were starting to move in that direction and were having success. Most notably two of our foes, WVU and Cinci.

Second, conventional wisdom is you need to be better than your opponents to have success in the Pro style. Pro style QB's need a couple of years to develop. OL is also a key. If you are inexperienced in those areas the spread was/is seen as a method to level the playing field so to speak. This is not my opinion, this is what I have read and heard from coaches in HS and College. In other words, unless you have a stellar OL and an experienced QB, the Pro may sputter.

Schiano admitted after that it was a mistake and quickly went back to what he knows which is Defense and conservative pro style offense, plus taking shots downfield when available. Flood carried that torch forward. I think 2014 was a good example of how this style worked well against teams we were as good as or better than in terms of talent and how it sputtered mightily against the Top Defenses.

Not true at all. Everybody bashed Kirk. Pro-Ash, Anti-Ash, Pro-Schiano, Anti-Schiano, Flood lovers, Flood haters. Everyone hated Kirk.

No not everyone. Just people who point fingers. I hate losing but i dont see the point of bashing our coaches and players

Rest assured KC will light us up next time we play Minny, assuming he's still there. That how things work for us.

There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth if Minnesota hangs 50 on RU using Captain Kirk's offense. People will lose their Vulcan minds.
