Carino: Jeremiah Williams Files Lawsuit to Play on Saturday

Long story short NCAA saying he's eligible starting 2/18 serving a 15 game suspension since the initial transfer TRO went into place. Jeremiah saying the suspension should go back to the beginning of the season and he should be eligible immediately

I think this implies that without this lawsuit, he wouldn't be eligible until he sat out 15 games from Dec 13 on, which would make him eligible for the Minnesota game.

Is it really worth burning his eligibility at this point?

This isn’t a post season team. Let’s just focus on playing time for Gavin, JMike, Simpson to get them ready for next year.

I’m sure the kid wants to play.
Richie has emphatically stated many times that JWill WANTS to play very much. He's suing to not miss another game

This team needs a spark. We need a bigger guard. We need someone who can penetrate and dish. We need someone who can finish at the rim. We need on court leadership

You suit him up and play him

It makes absolutely zero sense for him NOT to play. I don't know why people keep saying it's not worth it.

It's like a test drive for next year -- let him prove he's good enough to be a piece. Let him develop chemistry with Gavin/JMike et al. Let him shake some rust off.

Not to mention winning now DOES matter. You really want to end this season playing like crap while Ace/Dylan and the others are wondering what they signed up for? Not that I think they would given Dylan's familiarity with the program, but still...

Wouldn’t it be some shit if he ends up being the missing piece and we make a run.

I’m all for killing the zombie “Pike can’t recruit” nonsense. Until we kill it again.

Ace and Dylan are locked in. I don’t think this season matters to them at all.

It’s about time some action is taken. If the sit-out rule was deemed illegal by the courts, then he should be given “time served” from the beginning of the year as part of his suspension.

I’m no lawyer but could a temporary ruling be made that allows him to play right away , until a more permanent ruling is determined?

I mean I certainly hope so and think so too, but things have potential to get ugly based on last night. If reports from summer are accurate (big if) JWill should be a key piece moving forward.

Need 2025 and 2026 recruits too. Need to win now.

I will say this again

HE IS NOT BURNING ELIGIBILITY

This year, he has three years to play three

Next year, regardless if he plays this year or not, he has two years to play two

How the team plays this year has absolutely no impact on how Ace and Dylan view Rutgers. Kids don’t give ultimatums to programs based on how a team they have no involvement with is performing a few months before they are set to get on campus. And if they did… they wouldn’t be the right fit.

I read the Verified Complaint. As a practicing lawyer with 43 years of commercial trial experience, in NJ state and federal court, in my view, JW will obtain a TRO and play on Saturday. Once the case is assigned to a specific judge, I can "handicap" the probable success. They should have filed even earlier -- once the WVA TRO was entered. It will be interesting to see if there are any other supporting certifications from Pikiell or others, I also would not be shocked if the NJ AG's Office moves to intervene. Why not -- the AGs from about 5 states joined the WVA suit.

I don't know exactly what any of this means, but it seems good.

How soon do you think?

You first have to get the Judge it's assigned to (assigned randomly) to treat this with the same degree of urgency as JW's attorney is asking them to do. Depending on which judge it's assigned to, I'm thinking that the case gets heard late Friday afternoon. It;s a strong case. The NCAA is acting in a completely arbitrary, hyper-technical and punitive way. That's surprising to me because the NCAA's reasoning is highly suspect and they have considerable financial exposure in terms of damages -- if it turns out that JW is correct.

Apparently there is a technical reason why JW waited to file today -- as he wanted to have the NCAA's ruling before he filed. Had JW not waited, the Court might have said that he was premature because the NCAA hadn't yet ruled.

Plus this a high profile case. Judges love sports cases and the notoriety they bring!

Shockingly, I didn’t know how important your posts were to this board.

Appreciate the all caps as well. Lower case wouldn’t have been appropriate for a poster of your stature.

Haven’t read the whole thread. But he has 3 years left (I think). And he won’t be here the whole time

read he’s a good rebounder. Need that. Nice assist to TO ration. Need that. Shoots 67% from the FT line. So he fits right in.
That FT percentage will be an improvement over most of the roster

I agree with everything in this post.....I think

You're probably right but with all the criticism that Pike is getting for the state of the offense , it would have to concern them . After all, their NBA stock won't rise for their improved defense but for their offense.

I believe he waited to file since he needed to make up some credits over winter break.
