There are five Power 5 jobs remaining and I happen to now think Rutgers should rush to hire. We've got options and it's not like this recruiting class is worth saving. We may even get a better class with a better hire. I think Rich-Rod will eventually end up back east at UVA, USC or RU. So if we can get Rich-Rod then sign him. Other than that, I don't think Rutgers should commit to anyone until the shoe in Philladelphia drops. This hire can very well effect the next B1G TV deal. Rutgers is handling a ticking time bomb.

If Chip Kelly quit better programs would show up to hire him. We are not in his league.

This is my first reaction too - Texas would fire Strong if Kelly becomes available and wanteed to go there.

On the flip side, I think BBR does have a point - the dead period starts in 10 days. If we had even the slightest indication that he would come here (and again, I doubt that we have that), then it would be worthwhile to wait. But we would have to have some real indication from his people that he would consider it and do it within our price range.

Nothing would be worse than to wait a month to hire Al Golden.

The other side though is that staffs are going to be built out between now and the bowls. If we wait we likely risk missing on some better coaches.

just a hunch - RU already knows about 95% of what they want to do - and has also resolved a huge portion of the uncertainty. Success is in view ... just a question of how many moves to get there.

He wouldn't get fired for one bad season. He won 10 games the prior two years. He's at least earned a mulligan.

Texas fires Strong and we take him. At first I was worried, but now we've got options. Rich-Rod clearly want to come back east.

it might be a bit different in this situation - he made a number of dramatic moves - moves that many looked at and said uuuhh ???
it all seemed like - if it works - great
..... but if it is a mess - old Chip could walk the plank

He's not leaving and he's not getting fired.

A day after he said didn't feel the need to address his players about rumors that he could be leaving the Eagles, Chip Kelly spent part of Tuesday's morning meeting reassuring the team that he didn't have any plans to leave.

"He said, 'As long as they have me here, I'm here,'" running back Kenjon Barner said.

When he made Kelly king last January, he did so with his eyes wide open. He knew the risks. He knew Kelly would make a lot of bold moves in his attempt to take the Eagles from good to great.

He knew that some of those bold moves might not pan out. At least not right away. But he believed in Kelly and believed in his plan. According to people in the league who talk to Lurie, he still does.

No they dont
HE was responding to me - I said - why bother - because Texas would just fire Strong and get Kelly - and hes saying - thats fine - then we can just hire the newly free Strong - since we would basically be the only job on the market. Worst case scenario is probably we end up with about the same coach we would get today. I would say if there were even the slightest hint of interest, and we arent in the running for RR or Mullen, then it would be worth the wait.

Yeah, Rich Rod is going to go from WVU to Mich, AZ and then to RU.

Why not go after Chip Kelly!!!!!!!!!?

(I want what you are smoking)

While I definitely wouldn't rule out that scenario, I would be very surprised if that transpired. The owner (Lurie) has a strong belief in continuity and management stability (sort of like the Steelers).

If Kelly isn't the coach of the Eagles next year, I would imagine it being on his own terms. Lurie knew he was hiring an untested coach with extreme philosophies -- a bit of a learning curve and/or "sophomore jinx" is to be expected.

Of course not. Because we know it just doesn't get any higher in CFB than Arizona. I mean after all they are the second team in their state.

No. Unless he has already expressed interest
You've got to be in it to win it. I think Chip would rather deal with Rutgers alums and boosters than those annoying maniacs in Austin. 3 things that annoys Chip about the college game: kissing the ass of 17 year old, kissing the ass of alums, and kissing the ass of entitled boosters. "Were the only Power 5 in this state, you want to come here or not kid"?

If Chip were interested in getting back into the college game, I would think Miami would be the best fit. Imagine what he could do with all that speed...

If Kelly started coaching right after being fired wouldn't he be giving up a free paycheck? Isn't that why Schiano hasn't been coaching?

Don't mind them because they're a bunch of conditioned losers and it's a great thing we didn't hire one as an AD. I'm sick of the 06 little engine that could story because the 06 and 07 team were more talented than that. Rutgers needs to dominate and put on a show while doing it. This school is NJ.... The only Power 5 school our state.... School we should dominate college football and not some school in one of the poorest states in The Union, f-ck that! Spoke to a AAU coach who was forced to relocate to that state because of his job. In his exact words " It takes 20-30 square miles in Alabama to gather the athletic talent in 1 square mile of North Jersey. Rutgers under achieves and New Jersey is under recruited.

Screw Chip Kelly if he doesn't want us, then Nick Saban you're on the clock. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Kelly will be coaching the Eagles next year and Strong will be coaching Texas. Just hire Golden or Ash and let them get to work.

He won't exactly inspire kids to play football. I want Chip Kelly's system here because I understand the cause and effect it will have in this market if successful. The whole conference can benifit.
