Not OT, because we are in the running for him.

USA Today Headline:
Flailing USC needs Chip Kelly as its coach, not Steve Sarkisian
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...es-coach-chip-kelly-steve-sarkisian/73629682/

Wow, the wheels fall of fast at top shelf programs:
"No. 17 USC lost to unranked Washington on Thursday night, 17-12. It stands as the most inexplicable loss of the Sarkisian era, though there are many to choose from in his 18 games as the Trojans’ head coach.

It’s over. At least it should be.

Picked to win the Pac-12 Conference and stocked with talent that should go 10-2 by accident, Sarkisian has proven himself to be incapable of this job, on and off the field."

"Though Chip Kelly is reportedly committed to seeing it through with the Philadelphia Eagles, there would not be a more perfect marriage between team and coach than jumping to the Trojans.

If Kelly could dominate the Pac-12 at Oregon, there is no ceiling on what he could do at USC."

According to some here, we are!

Kelly isn't going anywhere for at least 2 more years. Why would he go back to college at this point? He isn't getting fired.

Even if he were fired according to Caliknight they wouldn't hire him because they're married to running that pro style type offense and wouldn't want to run Kelly's type of offense. When he mentioned it, it did ring a bell of something I had read before I think when Sarkisian got hired. So even if they do fire Sarkisian they may go for someone who will still keep their offense in tact. I personally would change considering all the talent and speed in California but who knows.

Hey, I said some posters floated Kelly's name. I did not say the board bought into it. Anyway, the takeaway from the first post is that top tier programs don't screw around and tolerate mediocrity.

USC AD should be fired. Steve Sarkisian was only hired because he was the QB USC coach previously. When he was at Washington, his record was 5-7,7-6,7-6,7-6,and 8-5. I would have fired him at Washington. It will only be a matter of time before he is terminated. What funny is the QB or the OL were bad. Maybe they can hire Washington's Peterson.

Or Flood!!!!!

Yah right - Chip Kelly couldn't sniff the Rutgers job. We're too good for him. Competition is stiff. Every coach in the NCAA and NFL wants to come to The Banks to the extent that we've got to beat them off with a stick.

I mean who doesn't want a low P5 salary with no budget for assistants, high school kids who hate their home state, an apathetic student body, cheap alumni, local media who write inflammatory fiction, a President who couldn't tell a football from a soccer ball, and a faculty that wants to bury the stadium under the Fieldturf?

Kyle Flood?

Or was that a rhetorical question?

I really don't think Chip is coming back to college anytime soon--he seems to be the type that absolutely hates the recruiting nonsense and all the schmoozing that needs to occur in order to get his guys on the roster. I see him sticking in the NFL even if things don't work out in Philly.

The more I think about it when this gets said I kind of see it. He does seem a little surly/aloof and probably doesn't like the "socializing" part of college football.but just wants to be fully engrossed in the strategy/coaching of football.

I think good points are made about the Eagles too. After you let the guy take over everything would you jettison him so quickly after that rather than give him a little bit of time.

I do wonder though if down the line it didn't work out in what capacity would he remain in the NFL unless someone wants him as an OC employing that type of offense. If it didn't work in Philly would someone else give him a chance as HC?

I kind of agree about the personality aspects of Kelly in relation to college but I also wonder about the viability of him remaining at a high level position in the NFL should it not work in Philly.

USC fire Pat Haden? Not anytime soon, they are not firing an SC QB who helped them win 2 NCs in the 70s. Regarding Sarkisian, the hire at the time made sense. It's really not that easy to win at Washington (unless there is cheating going on...which certainly has occurred several times). With the talent that USC brings in, Sarkisian who was successful as OC at USC made sense. He might get fired down the road but at the time it seemed like a logical move.

I wonder if they regret not giving Ed Orgeron a shot, and if Orgeron will be picked up as a Head Coach somewhere. He is coaching DL at LSU now.

Which incidentally is one good reason NOT to fire your coach midseason. You basically gain nothing from doing so (anyone you want is working until December), but set up this exact scenario, where the interim looks good - so you either hire him based on a limited sample, or you dont and potentially look like a moron if the guy you hire doesnt work out, or the interim goes elsewhere and works out better.

I think USC-alum Jeff Fisher would be a better choice than Kelly - more of hard-nosed brand of football. USC gets the best recruits - they don't need a gimicky offense.

The USC board is getting as crazy as the Rutgers board. They know what they have and they don't like it. How do you fire a coach after 1.3 years? They will have to go at least 3 years or maybe if they listen to some Rutgers fans, give him 4-5 years to see how his recruits respond.

Wow, a lot of job openings in college. I guess Schiano will get one if he wants.

USC, MARYLAND, VIRGINIA, ILLINOIS, PURDUE, USF, UCF, MIAMI, TENN, RUTGERS, TEXAS

Did I miss any?

A Sports Illustrated story about the USC situation: http://www.si.com/college-football/2015/10/09/washington-beats-usc-steve-sarkisian-chris-petersen

From the essay: "Sarkisian also gave mixed messages on his potential treatment options, leaving USC looking like Rutgers’s West Coast cousin."

Time to stop blaming our troubles on the SL and ESPN. Or are some going to claim that SI has it in for us too?
The local press sets the tone for the national press. Unless its a really huge story (Mike Rice, Ray Rice, etc) the national press is going to depend on te local preess to do most of the leg work, at least initially. ESPN my get Joe Schad or whoever to call around, but they arent going to OPRA records, or get timely leaks from low level inside sources, or anything like that. So if the local press is hostile, it will allow the national press to do the same. If they are friendly, its much harder for the national press to be unfriendly, because then they would have to dig up dirt themselves - which they wont do for a minor story like Floods suspension.

Since ESPN is the big boy they also set the tone.

By the time it gets to SI, they are just parroting what the local press and ESPN are saying.

The author of the essay from SI is Pete Thamel. He has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his work at the NY TImes. I found the essay interesting precisely because he seemed to be doing his own independent analysis about USC. Whether or not he has independently looked into the situation at RU or simply read the SL, of course we don't know. But in general you don't rise to the top of your profession by parroting others.

Wasn't Thamel the guy who did the fawning story about Manti Te'o's imaginary dead girlfriend?
